“Okay. I’ll send someone to pick you up later. Why didn’t you drive?”
“What?”
“The car you drove was parked in the office parking lot downstairs, so I thought you were nearby. What are you doing here? Why didn’t you drive to the bar?”
Eric seemed to be asking casually like he was looking for something to say.
Selena recalled what happened and became extremely quiet.
It took her more than ten seconds to answer slowly.
“Ah, I went to see someone. Then I forgot that I drove.”
Eric could not help but laugh. His voice was soft as he asked, “Who made you so distracted?”
“Cindy.”
There was a moment of silence on the phone.
Eric’s smile faded, and his voice sank.
“Why did you meet her? She didn’t hurt you, did she?”
“Of course not. She wanted me to be her spy and steal the original contract of the neighboring city project for her. She said she would give me shares in Yeager Corporation so that I can get dividends every year. Oh, she also gave me a $500,000 bank card.”
Selena said everything in one go. She did not need to keep Cindy’s secret.
Eric was silent for a full minute.
His breathing became a little rough as he said mockingly, “She’s really generous. She’s about to go bankrupt, but she still mentions shares?”
“Right? That’s why I refused without hesitation.”
“At least you’re not stupid.” Eric nodded with satisfaction. “It’s commendable.”
Selena twitched her lips. “Then how will you reward me?”
Eric said, “Tsk, are you asking me for a gift?”
“Yes. Why not?”
“The reception tonight is an auction. If there’s something you like, I will buy it for you. How’s that?”
Eric’s voice was gentle and delighted.
Selena laughed loudly. “Eric, just wait for your bank to be emptied!”
With that said, she hung up the phone.
Eric was not the slightest bit angry when he looked at the blacked-out phone screen. Instead, he felt a sense of accomplishment.
He even had some anticipation for tonight’s event.
How could he not look forward to it?
Selena hung up the phone, stood up, and walked in.
“Chaz, I’m leaving. Keep up the good work!”
“Boss, you came here for a meal and left just like that?”
At this moment, Chaz did not think Selena suffered any grievances with Eric.
Eric’s voice and tone were completely doting.
“If not? Should I help you guys with the construction?”
The renovation reached the final stage. It would be completed in a few days. It was still amazing to see the prototype, but Selena was not in the mood to appreciate it now.
However, she trusted Chaz.
Selena smiled, turned around, and left leisurely with some kind of determination.
She went back to the villa and changed into a more expensive dress. Then, she waited for Eric’s people to pick her up.
Selena did not expect that the person who came to pick her up was Mitchell.
Mitchell took the initiative to speak.
“Ms. Nelson, I took the initiative to pick you up. Mr. Ferguson was afraid that you would be nervous, so he told me to tell you not to be scared. If you see anything you like later, just bid for it. You don’t need to be afraid of saying the wrong thing at the reception either. Just be casual.”
Although no one dared to offend Eric’s female companion, Eric was still worried that Selena would be nervous when attending such an occasion for the first time.
Thus, he asked Mitchell to put aside the work at hand and take her there.
This showed that Eric cared more about Selena than Mitchell initially thought.
Selena sat in the passenger seat and smiled indifferently.

The readers' comments on the novel: The Divorced Billionaire Heiress
I liked this book and wanted to read it. As I have moved into the chapters, I have found that it is unreadable due to typographical errors, including sentences that are incomplete, complete gibberish, missing elements. This is not just some misspelled words. It is actually unreadable. If you decide to fix this, let me know and I will read it....
