Amelia tried to console Steven, but she felt a crushing weight of responsibility. After all, everything started because of her. With tearful eyes, she hung her head low in guilt.

“Don’t be hard on yourself, Amelia. It’s not your fault at all what happened today.” Steven comforted her, his hoarse voice soft and tender.

Amelia felt a lump in her throat, her lips quivering. “But…”

“You’re the love of my life, the future that I chose. We will be together to the very end. No one can stop me.”

Clarence’s voice came from behind. “Steve!”

The pair turned around and watched Clarence run toward them.

“Thank you for sticking up for Amelia today, Clarence. Thank you for taking our side.”

Steven teared up. “We will never forget what you have done for us, and I promise to return the favor.”

Clarence looked angry. “You’re my only younger brother, Steve. Am I not family to you anymore?”

“No, I didn’t mean that.”

“I’m sorry, Steve.”

The couple was taken aback. Steven quickly said, “Don’t say that, Clarence! You never let me down.”

“No, I’ve been meaning to apologize to you. The apology came a little late.”

Clarence put his head down, feeling a catch in his throat. “I know I’m not the most caring person around. My focus has always been to learn and make something out of myself. I’ve never been bothered by what has been going on in the family. I knew Hunter wasn’t good to you, and I knew you suffered a lot because of this family, but due to my indifference and selfishness, I didn’t once stand up for you as a brother.”

“Clarence…”
