In a mysterious mountaintop villa in Sentania, it was lush with greenery and scenic views.
The bedroom was dimly lit, and a calming fragrance emitted from an antique burner, the white smoke swirling, settling all restlessness, agitation, and noise into silence.
Bella lay peacefully on the soft, large bed, deep asleep.
She was still wearing her pristine, luxurious wedding dress, beautiful and fragile, so much so that one would hesitate to touch her. Even Sleeping Beauty would pale in comparison.
A tall and refined figure sat in a wheelchair, silhouetted against the light, quietly facing Bella’s direction.
“Sir, I’ve checked her over. She doesn’t have any external injuries.” Having studied basic medicine, Clarice could manage a simple physical exam. “Her blood test results are out too. There’s an anesthetic and sedative residue, but nothing harmful to her health.”
She curled her lips slightly, her tone tinged with mockery. “I told you, Christopher loves her too much to poison her.”
“Being cautious never hurts.” Grant’s elegant and handsome face softened, his voice clear and melodious. “It seems Ms. Bella has suffered quite a bit on the island. When I last saw her, my brother had kept her as radiant and delicate as a fine diamond. Now, she seems much thinner. But it doesn’t matter. She’s still breathtakingly beautiful.”
“Sir, I’ve been with you for so long but rarely hear you compliment anyone.”
Clarice’s eyelid twitched. She tried to suppress her emotions but could not hide the slight bitterness in her tone. “You really care about Ms. Bella.”
Grant’s thin lips curled into a faint smile. “Are you jealous?”
Clarice bit her lip. “No…”
“Is that so? Or is it because you don’t dare to?”
She lowered her head, utterly subdued. “No, and I wouldn’t dare.”
“Clarice, you are not inferior to others. If anything is lacking, it’s that you’re not patient enough, not calculating enough, and not calm enough.”
Grant glanced at her with an ambiguous smile. “Don’t forget what I told you to always keep on your mind.”
“Don’t get emotionally involved, don’t fall in love, and don’t look back.”
Clarice gritted her teeth. “Without you, I wouldn’t be reborn. Your constant guidance will stay with me forever, even in death.”
“Emotions are unnecessary by my side. They lead to mistakes.” Grant’s deep eyes narrowed slightly, like a hidden whirlpool. “What I need is only absolute loyalty.”
He then asked Clarice to call in Jace, who was waiting outside.
“You worked hard this time. Your mission was completed very well.” Grant smiled warmly, affirming Jace’s efforts.
