Mirabella noticed the silence on the other end and called out to Nellie again.
Nellie took the handkerchief away from her face, her voice as steady as ever, “I’ll look through some medical books for you. Just let me know if you need anything.”
“Alright,” Mirabella replied with a decisive tone. “Thanks, Nellie.”
Nellie felt a slight pang at Mirabella’s words. “It’s no trouble.”
“Take care of yourself,” Mirabella added before ending the call.
Standing in the garden, Nellie lowered the phone from her ear. The cool breeze brushed past her, making her frail figure seem like it might be carried away at any moment.
After a long pause, she lowered her gaze, tucked the stained handkerchief into her pocket, and turned to head into the hidden room.
Meanwhile, Mirabella had just set her phone down when Cassie, who had been holding his breath, finally exhaled loudly. “What did Nellie say?”
Mirabella raised an eyebrow, sensing his concern. “She didn’t tell you to go back.”
Cassie rubbed his nose, curiosity piqued. “I heard you say Chester’s sick? What kind of illness could even stump you?”
“What do you think is the hardest illness to cure?” Mirabella asked, tapping her fingers on the table instead of answering directly.
Cassie, who wasn’t really into medical stuff, shrugged. “What illness?”
Mirabella just smiled and took a leisurely sip of her juice, leaving him hanging.
Cassie’s curiosity was about to get the better of him when the door to the private booth opened, interrupting him as James walked in.
