Mirabella barely gave the man a second look as she breezed past him, continuing down the hallway without breaking stride.
The man noticed, his eyebrow lifting ever so slightly, but he didn’t bother to stop or turn around. He rounded the corner and slipped back into his own private room, ending his phone call as he went.
Inside, two others were waiting.
"Leon, have you thought more about our partnership?" a middle-aged man seated at the head of the table asked, his voice courteous yet firm as he addressed Asa.
Asa settled into his chair with an air of easy indifference. "I'm in no hurry," he said casually.
The middle-aged man frowned slightly, his fingers pressing into the armrest with a hint of impatience, though he kept his cool.
"As long as you provide us with the genetic enhancement tech, a long-term partnership will be nothing but beneficial for you," he pitched again.
Asa lounged back in his seat, legs crossed in a laid-back manner. He didn’t bother looking at the man, instead gazing out towards the balcony. "The auction's started," he pointed out.
The host’s voice from downstairs drifted into the room, prompting the middle-aged man to drop the topic for now. While a deal with Asa was crucial, today's focus was on the auction’s weaponry.
Asa shifted in his seat, his mind wandering back to the girl he’d bumped into at the restroom. Though he'd only seen her in documents before, her striking features were unforgettable.
Mirabella, found three years ago after a quiet life in the country, had transformed drastically. The way she’d almost collided with him, her quick reflexes and nimble dodging, weren’t what you'd expect from just anyone.
