Kylie was busy writing an academic report for the upcoming Traditional and Modern Medicine Conference, and she worked until late at night. She was hungry, but the butler and maids had already retreated to rest.
Glancing at the clock, she saw it was nearly midnight. Samuel still hadn't returned, leaving the villa quiet.
Kylie enjoyed the peace. Then, she made her way to the kitchen, planning to cook something without disturbing anyone.
The meals that the maids prepared were largely Vestrian-style, which she was unfamiliar with, so she bought some frozen steak, pasta, and sausages. Eating them on occasion was both full and satisfying.
The double-door fridge was stocked with high-quality ingredients. After some digging, she discovered a little bundle of greens hidden away in a corner.
Kylie grabbed an egg as well, turned on the stove, and started cooking. One pot was used for boiling water and another for frying a sunny-side-up egg. In less than 10 minutes, the noodles were ready.
The pasta sauce was thick, and the aroma was mouthwatering. Smelling it made her even hungrier.
Fearing that the smell would linger, she didn't dare eat in the dining room. Instead, she opened the kitchen windows and started eating right there.
Just as she took her first bite, a voice echoed from the kitchen doorway.
"Is it good?"
She froze. She had a mouthful of pasta in her mouth, and swallowing or spitting it out both seemed like good options. In the end, she had no choice but to hurriedly gulp it down.
She had made an aglio olio pasta, and the chili flakes were caught in her throat, nearly choking her. She clutched her chest, her face turning red from the coughing fit.
She glared at the man standing in the shadows of the doorway, who was completely shrouded in the darkness of the night. "When did you get back? Why didn't you make a sound?"
Samuel didn't respond but merely stared at the bowl of pasta with an unreadable expression.
"Have you eaten dinner? Do you want to try some of my pasta?" she asked awkwardly.
