Kylie indifferently replied, "This tea is for Grandpa."
No one would dare call Vincent a beggar.
Gabriella was instantly silenced. Seeing that Kylie was not an easy target, the others dared not step forward to get equally humiliated.
Kylie continued, "I know the Vance family doesn't lack tea, but this tea is rationed based on Grandpa's condition, and drinking it will benefit his health. As for why we arrived so late…"
She paused and looked at the tall Samuel beside her. A shy smile appeared on her face as she said, "I stayed over at Hythe Villa last night, and Samuel got us too exhausted, so we got up late."
Everyone was stunned to hear that, especially Samuel, whose pupils constricted in shock.
He stared at the petite Kylie beside him in disbelief, his gloomy eyes gradually darkening with an ominous glint. Kylie truly was sharp-tongued and shameless.
"Samuel." That was when a well-maintained and graceful woman approached them.
Seeing her, Samuel's expression instantly softened. He stepped forward and said, "When did you come back, Mom? Why didn't you tell me in advance? I could've picked you up at the airport."
Liana Houston cast Samuel a sideways glance. "I got a call yesterday saying your grandpa's condition worsened, so I immediately booked a flight home. I knew you were busy with work, so I didn't call you.
"But I didn't expect you to be so occupied, not just with work, but with a rather eventful nightlife as well."
She'd heard about what had happened yesterday, and she didn't like Kylie, her new daughter-in-law, who'd forced her way in!
Kylie hadn't expected her bold statement to be overheard by her future mother-in-law. She was instantly dwelling in regret, and her face burned with embarrassment.
Straightening up, she clenched her fists by her side, and her heart pounded.
Samuel chuckled softly. His voice was warm and smooth as he said, "Oh, don't you know me, Mom? I'll handle it, but some people are full of schemes and tricks."
Seeing that Samuel didn't expose her, Kylie secretly breathed a sigh of relief. She was debating whether to greet Liana under such circumstances when an elderly lady with grey hair approached.
The latter took Kylie's hand and kindly said, "You're here, sweetheart."
"Mrs. Vance Senior." Kylie greeted respectfully. As she thought about how she'd used Vincent's life for marriage yesterday, she tightened her grip on the tea boxes.
Alissa patted her hand gently. "Don't be nervous. We met yesterday, and I'm Samuel's grandma, which means I'm your grandma too. Your grandpa is awake and wants to see you both."
"Thank you, Grandma." Kylie's heart warmed as she quickly handed the tea boxes over. "This is for Grandpa. Drinking two cups a day will help with his condition."
"What a thoughtful child. Vincent is waiting for you. Go ahead." Alissa smiled as she accepted the tea.
Standing by the side, Gabriella remarked sarcastically, "You're right, Alissa. Ms. Clark is definitely thoughtful."
Samuel had started striding toward Vincent's room. Seeing this, Kylie quickly followed.
As they walked side by side, Samuel hissed in a low voice, "Too exhausted, so you got up late?"
Kylie stiffened while Samuel sneered mockingly. "You're smarter than I expected, but it seems you've misunderstood me."
In the living room, the Vances watched them whispering to each other, and each was occupied with their thoughts.
Gabriella walked to the side, took out her phone, and dialed a number.
…
At the hospital, Euphemia entered Iris' ward, carrying packed meals.
Iris was leaning against the headboard and playing a game on her phone. She only put her phone away when Euphemia set the food down, but after glancing at the dishes, she frowned with displeasure. "Plain and boring. Just looking at it kills my appetite."
Euphemia smacked Iris' back twice, not too hard but enough to show her frustration.
