Chapter 18 

The slap left Matthew rather dazed. 

Marion and Elara exchanged looks. They realized that even Nino’s subordinate showed no respect for the Carters, 

let alone Nino himself. Shawn had gone so far as to hit Matthew without hesitation, too. 

Clutching his face, Matthew got back on his feet. Sensing the strange looks in the women’s eyes, he felt humiliated, but he dared not say anything. 

After seeing that even Matthew couldn’t do anything about it, Arnold knew there was no use in saying anything else. With great bitterness, he said, “I’ll pay ten million dollars in compensation. Please tell Mr. Duran to give me three days to gather the money.” 

“Three days? That’s too long. You’re not even getting an hour, let alone three days,” Shawn retorted. 

“What do you want, then?” Arnold fumed. “We’re a modest family with a small company, and business hasn’t been going too well. I can’t fork out ten million dollars in cash right away. If you insist on being unreasonable, I’ll have no choice but to put my foot down! 

“I don’t have the money for you. If you want, you can take my life instead. Go on. I’m right here! Do you dare to do it?” 

Shawn was taken aback. He didn’t expect Arnold to have such a steely side to him. Sneering, he said, “I won’t be needing your life, but I don’t mind teaching you a lesson.” 

As soon as he said that, a few men in black rushed forward and tackled Arnold down before beating him up. In the blink of an eye, Arnold was bruised and bleeding all over. 

“Arnie!” 

“Dad!” 

Marion and Elara were terrified, but they were no match for those men and couldn’t save Arnold. Seeing this, Matthew fled at once. 

“That’s enough!” 

At last, the men in black stopped. 

Arnold was bleeding profusely and could barely breathe properly. 

Marion tearfully helped Arnold to his feet before shrieking “You barged into our house in broad daylight and attacked my husband! Are we living in a lawless society?” 

“The law? Hah! Mr. Duran’s word is the law.”
