Madison frowned slightly. “You followed me into the ghost shrine?” 

Sebastian nodded, causing Madison to frown harder. 

She stared closely at him, as if trying to look into his soul. 

The ghost shrine might be aligned with negative energy, but it was extremely opposed to foreign energies. It wouldn’t have allowed negative energies of the same element to enter. 

Even Mia and Yara couldn’t enter. 

Only Sebastian could, apparently.

Sebastian nodded in agreement, before repeating, “You haven’t answered my question. What did you see at the ghost shrine? 

Madison said nothing. 

“I overheard your conversation with that thing.” Sebastian continued. “The ghost shrine can draw out the strongest desires in people’s hearts. Do you also have something you desire, Madison?” 

Sebastian was incredibly curious. 

He wasn’t the type of person to pry into others‘ secrets. However, at this moment, he wanted to low what Madison’s deepest desire 

was. 

She was always level–headed, even when dealing with the Locke family. No matter how well or how badly the Lockes treated her, she would take everything in stride. But when she fell into an illusion back at the ghost shrine, there had been a joyful smile on her face. 

It was the kind of smile a young lady her age should have an open, carefree smile. 

He had never seen Madison smiling like that. She looked like an angel who descended from heaven to illuminate the earth. 

Madison kept her gaze lowered. “All humans have desires. I’m also human, so, of course, I do.” 

“Then, what is it you desire?” 

Madison lifted her head slowly, meeting Sebastian’s gaze. She pursed her lips and said nothing 

He continued to question her, “Who’s Raymond?” 

Madison’s gaze turned cold. “That’s not someone you should concern yourself with.” 

She stood up. “I’m going to turn in for bed. Please leave.” 

Sebastian didn’t press the issue any further. His heart sank as he gazed at Madison, who was unusually furious. 

Evidently, this Raymond person was extremely important to Madison–so important that it could make her this emotional. 

He floated out of Madison’s room. 

Once he had truly left, Madison exhaled. She got back into bed and slipped under the covers.

She silently recited

Meanwhile, over at the other inn, Nate was sitting on his bed. He stared at the number on his screen, his fingers hovering over it.

“Hello!” 

It was Estelle’s voice. 

Nate’s heart thumped in his chest. He opened his mouth to speak but realized he couldn’t find the words. 

“Hello? Is something the matter? If you’re not going to speak up, I’m going to hang up!”
