The next morning, Madison completed her morning meditation, then packed her bags and got ready to leave. 

As she descended the stairs, she bumped into Queenie, who was just returning from her morning run, Queenie kept jogging as she said, “Nate’s left. He left in the middle of the night, in fact. He came over to bid farewell before leaving 

“These are his contact details. He said he’d repay the favor once he was home.” 

Madison received the name card Queenie held out to her and kept it in her pocket. 

“Are you going back today?” asked Queenie. 

As they conversed, Tanya and Rebecca arrived. 

Tanya immediately asked Madison, “Can you accompany me to the ghost shrine once more, Maddie? We haven’t gotten Becky’s horoscope yet.” 

“Anyone can enter the ghost shrine freely now. You can go get the horoscope whenever you want,” replied Madison. 

“But…” Rebecca began in a small voice. “I’m still a little scared. The ghost shrine was so powerful. What if it regained its power after you left?” 

“Maddie, I’m begging you,” said Tanya. 

She pulled a check from her pocket. “This is five million dollars. As long as you’re willing to go with Becky, this five million is yours.” 

Queenie was speechless. 

What was going on with Tanya? 

She seemed very concerned for Madison yesterday night, what with risking the climb back up the mountain on her own and then arranging dinner as well. 

But in the morning, she was like a different person. 

Especially when she was with Rebecca. She was completely biased! 

Madison didn’t take the check. She shouldered her bag and said, “I have to make a trip to Nova City. It’s urgent.” 

Tanya frowned in dissatisfaction. “Nova City? Why do you need to go there? What could be more important than Becky’s safety? She’s your older sister, after all.” 

In contrast to Tanya’s anger, Madison was calm. 

“I have to go to Nova City for something important. I can assure you that the ghost shrine is no longer dangerous,” said Madison. 

She glanced at Rebecca. “If you really want to retrieve your horoscope, then go. There’s no need to fear.” 

Then, she paused before adding, “But I must remind you that the shrine feeds on karma, which is an act that defies fate. I’ve broken the shrine’s tether, which also means that I’ve destroyed its ability to defy fate” 

The pitiful expression on Rebecca’s face froze for a second. She asked reflexively, “What do you mean?” 

“Whatever granted by the ghost shrine shall turn to nothing.” 

Madison looked at Queenie and said, “I’m leaving. Your karma has suffered because you prayed to the ghost shrine, so it’s best if you do more good deeds.” 

Queenie nodded vigorously. “I will. I’ll do whatever you tell me to.” Then, she asked worriedly, “Do you need me to arrange transport for you?” 

Madison shook her head. “There’s no need. A car is coming to pick me up.” 

Queenie poked her head outside. “Damn, is that the car?” 

Rebecca took a look as well. She frowned, her face full of disgust. 

What was so surprising about a small, worn–looking sedan? 

Queenie caught the flash of disdain on Rebecca’s face. She laughed mockingly at her. “Some people only judge a book by its cover and a car by its branding. Take a good look at the number plate!” 

Rebecca finally took a closer look at the car. When she caught sight of the number plate, she shook in disbelief. 

Standing next to the car was a man dressed in a black suit, his posture straight and his eyes sharp. 

One look at the man’s imposing frame and one could guess who he worked for. 

Rebecca immediately asked, “Maddie, did you get yourself in trouble? Why’s a government car here to fetch you?”
