Erwin let out a wry smile. "She truly has no faction; she's the heiress of the Locke family from Riverview. After we get out, you can ask around a bit, and you'll find out."
Liam wanted to ask more, but suddenly, a roar echoed from inside, and the dense negative energy surged violently.
"Madison, you dare to toy with me? I'll kill you!"
The negative energy exploded.
This energy forced everyone back, and those who were seriously injured fell to the ground, coughing up blood repeatedly.
"Madison!"
"Ms. Locke!"
The crowd anxiously turned their gazes toward the fighting circle.
As the negative energy dissipated, the smoke gradually cleared. At the center of the explosion, the grand hall was already reduced to ruins. Amidst the debris, Madison, dressed in a white wedding gown, firmly plunged the bronze sword into Avery's body.
Avery lay on the wreckage, his clothes in tatters. His once handsome face was now twisted into a horrifying visage. Ghostly energy oozed from the wounds all over his body.
He looked up at Madison, chuckling weakly. "I underestimated you."
Madison pressed down harder on the sword. "You didn't just underestimate me. You underestimated everyone.
"Mr. Beaumont!" Madison called out, and Logan snapped back to his senses. "Chains, cage!"
A few soldiers pushed a cage covered in runes toward Avery. They used the rune-etched chains to confine him and force him inside the cage. Avery was gravely injured and lying in the cage, his true form becoming increasingly evident.
He breathed heavily, his eyes fixed intently on Madison.
...
The rumbling finally ceased, and the tremors of the mountain stopped.
Wanda gripped a nearby tree to steady herself. "What was that sound? It sounded like cannon fire. Why would there be cannon fire?"
The soldiers stationed nearby activated their intercoms. "Alright, we're heading over to assist immediately."
"The commander has instructed us to go and provide support."
