Looking at Parker's caring eyes, Meredith was unable to deceive him. She thought that she would not tell the truth. And then she nodded.
It was not a lie. After all, as the child's father, Derek had been taking care of her recently.
Parker felt a little depressed when he got the answer. He thought Meredith's baby was an accident, but now it seemed that it wasn't.
Meredith had fallen in love with another man before he knew it?
At first, Parker just wanted to make it up to Meredith. However, after spenting a lot of time together with her, he was unconsciously attracted to her. He could not tell whether he was so good to her out of guilt or out of love.
"Then, when will you let me see him? If he doesn't treat you well, I'll go hard with him."
Parker forced a smile and showed no sign of sadness.
Meredith also smiled. Parker seemed to have fought Derek more than once. But from his words, he was like her family and brought her a feeling of security.
"Don't worry. I'll protect myself."
They talked for a while. But Parker needed to attend to some business. Therefore, Meredith asked him to go back to work.
The smile on Parker's face disappeared when he left the ward and closed the door.
Seemingly, he was cynical and outgoing. But in fact, he was not what he appeared to be. He wanted Meredith for himself, but he didn't want to scare her.
Just as he struggled, the nurse came over with the nutritious meal that she had just prepared. When she saw the back of a handsome and tall man at the door, she thought it was Derek. Then she greeted him warmly, "Mr. Xavier, you're back now?"
Parker came back to his senses. The words of the nurse alerted him and he immediately turned around. "What did you just say?"
The nurse realized that she had the wrong person. And his expression was so frightening that she dared not speak. "I'm sorry, I've mistaken you."
"The person you just called is Derek?"
Parker was not interested in hearing this. He grabbed the nurse's wrist and asked in a harsh voice.
The pain in her wrist and the man's coercion made the nurse nod involuntarily. "Mr. Xavier asked me to take care of Miss Mason."
Only then did Parker wake up. He let go of his hand and looked at the door of the ward thoughtfully. Then he rushed out in shock.
He needed some time to digest this fact.
The nurse watched as he walked away, and then patted her chest in shock. Didn't she just mistake him? Why was he being so shocked? He looked sanctimonious but acted like a lunatic.
Parker stumbled out of the hospital and bumped into several people along the way. But he wasn't aware of it at all. He pulled his tie off until he got in his car.
Meredith's child was Derek's?
All that happened before that he had never spared much thought immediately passed through his mind. Derek was inexplicably against him before. And they were often with each other. Now it seemed that it was not the boss's concern for his subordinate at all, but the man's most primitive possessive desire for a woman.
Parker took out a cigarette. Only the strong smell of smoke could l calm him down.
"Derek..."
If it was any other man, perhaps Parker was willing to part with her and let them be together. After all, he owed Meredith too much. As long as she was happy, he could only bless her.
