The Good Girl's Revenge novel Chapter 87

Derek noticed a trace of determination in Meredith's eyes, and he felt a sense of unease becoming stronger.

But Meredith did not stop and she left quickly.

Derek walked into the study. Mr. Xavier pointed to the board. "Come on, continue playing."

Derek frowned. "Grandpa, what did she just say to you?"

Mr. Xavier looked at Derek and shook his head. "She had asked to talk to me alone. If I tell you what she said, I'll become an unreliable old man. Just play."

Derek saw that the Old Master clearly did not want to say it, and he could not ask any more questions, so he could only suppress his emotions and continue playing chess.

However, this time, he was far from as calm as before. In a short while, the advantage he had gained in the early stage of the chess game was lost. Soon, the Old Master caught his weakness and forced him to a dead end.

"Derek, living is like playing chess. Every step is very important. You must be careful."

The Old Master won the game without a doubt. He spoke to Derek earnestly when he saw that Derek's mind was obviously not on the game.

Derek nodded and then he felt that this meant something else. However, the Old Master said that he was tired and wanted to go back to rest. Therefore, Derek didn't ask anything after all.

The next morning, Meredith said she was unwell, so she didn't go to work.

Derek looked at the empty passenger seat and was inexplicably upset.

How long had she been suffering from gastroenteritis? Why hadn't she recovered yet?

Was the doctor she had seen a quack? Thinking about it, Derek called the family doctor and asked him to come over tonight to check on Meredith.

The Old Master quickly asked someone to get the divorce certificate done. He worried that a long delay may cause new troubles, so he handled it very efficiently.

However, the Xaviers certainly didn't intend to give her the divorce certificate. They were worried that she would make a fuss about it.

Meredith naturally did not care. When she left, she only brought a small suitcase with her, which contained a few clothes and shoes that she had brought out when she left the prison. She did not take away the rest of her things.

Mr. Xavier wrote her a check. The number on it was extremely tempting, but Meredith refused to take it. "I'm lucky to be able to get out of prison. I don't need the money. Grandpa Xavier, I just hope you will remember your promise to me."

Mr. Xavier nodded. "Don't worry. That matter is over, and no one will pursue it anymore. My words still count."

Meredith nodded and left.

Meredith's eyes darkened at the thought of that man. Presumably, they would not even have a chance to meet in the future.

These days she had been living in the Xaviers as Derek's wife and it was like a dream to her.

Now that she had woken up, it was time for her to start her new life.

...

In the evening, Derek left work.

At dinner time, Meredith still didn't show up. Derek did not suspect anything. After all, she once said that her stomach was uncomfortable and that she had not eaten with anyone else for a long time.

When Derek returned to his bedroom after dinner, he realized something was wrong.

Some of Meredith's clothes that were originally hanging in his closet were gone now, and the bedding that she used to sleep on the floor was also gone.

Everything seemed to have returned to the beginning when Meredith didn't exist.

Derek seemed to have thought of something. He strode out and went straight to Meredith's room. He opened the door. It was empty. There was no one in it. He couldn't even tell that someone had lived there after the room was cleaned.
