Chapter 19
To be honest, George was not entirely confident either because he had not discovered that those women were the widows of the fallen heroes. However, considering they had come so far, there was no turning back.
There were so many officials and other governors watching. If it ended there, they would become laughingstocks. Since the arrow was already nocked, it had to be fired!
Hearing that, Stephen calmed down slightly. In any case, George was his future father–in- law. Surely, his future father–in–law would not set him up, would he?
“Okay, I agree,” Stephen agreed.
Believing that George must have his best interest at heart, he wrote a guarantee and led a group inside to search the apartments.
Once inside, they were shocked to find that the million–dollar apartments were furnished simply. It was just the bare basics. The cost of a single table in George’s home could have furnished half of one of those apartments. Seeing it made George’s heart sink.
Stephen ordered the search, but after more than half an hour, they found nothing. Refusing to believe it, he searched several more apartments but still found no evidence. There was only more proof that the women were indeed the widows of the fallen heroes.
After half a day, Stephen’s normally confident and composed expression turned pale as he broke out in a cold sweat.
Something was wrong. How could there be no evidence at all? Could he actually be wrong?
Come on, evidence, show up. I don’t want to apologize publicly!” He grew desperate.
Meanwhile, Liam verified the identities of the fallen soldiers‘ families, and they perfectly matched the women present.
He handed the files to Stephen and said coldly, “This farce ends now!”
Stephen looked at the files and felt his final hope extinguished.
He staggered back several steps, muttering, “How could this be?”
Those women had nothing to do with Ethan! Ethan had really used his own money to support those fallen heroes‘ families!
The governors stared at George and asked, “Is this the ‘trouble‘ you said Ethan was causing?”
George’s lips twitched. That was not how he expected things to turn out!
Just then, one of the women suddenly knelt in front of her husband’s photo, holding her

child, and burst into tears. “James, look at how they’re treating us after all you sacrificed. How are we supposed to keep living like this?”
The three–year–old child also started to wail.
Soon, the other women, who had been holding back tears, could no longer help it. They had suffered enough humiliation today. Not only were they accused of being someone else’s woman, but a group of men had barged into their homes to search them. How were they supposed to live?
“Wahhh…”
