Stephen had thought that would be his opportunity to bring down Ethan, but in the end, he was the one who had to swallow his pride. 

He clenched his fists, gritted his teeth, and muttered, “Sorry. 

“This is unbearable!” 

The women, far from appeased, started to cry louder. 

“Not only did he barge and search our homes, but there’s no sincerity in his apology at all! We can’t live like this. I’m going to end it right here, right now!! 

In the conference room, George panicked when he saw a woman about to run into the wall. If someone died, the situation would spiral out of control. 

“Don’t do anything rash! Calm down!” George shouted, “Stephen! Apologize to them now!” 

Stephen paled. He did not expect the situation to escalate to the point where the women were threatening suicide. However, at that point, he could not waste time figuring out if they were serious. He had to follow George’s orders to keep his job. 

George had ordered the operation, yet now he was yelling at Stephen and demanding that he apologize in front of everyone. The humiliation was unbearable. 

He was the son of a prominent family in the capital, and now he felt like an ordinary person who had accidentally dirtied someone’s multimillion–dollar car. 

“I’m sorry.” Stephen lowered his head in front of everyone and apologized. “This was all a misunderstanding. I sincerely ask for your forgiveness.” 

The women finally quieted down a little, but it was not over. 

They glared at Stephen and said, “Is it clear now? Ethan Rivers is innocent. Why did your arrest him?” 

They could not believe that Ethan would ever engage in embezzlement or bribery. They had always raised their children to look up to Ethan as a role model. 

Stephen’s mouth twitched. Release Ethan? Absolutely not. 

He replied, “The evidence against Ethan is conclusive. He can’t be released.” 

“He can’t be released?” Several women walked up to Stephen. 

For some reason, Stephen felt afraid. 

He took a deep breath and answered, “That’s right.”

They immediately started crying again. 

“Without Ethan, how are we widows and orphans supposed to survive? Arresting Ethan is the same as killing us! We can’t go on like this! 

George and Stephen felt their heads throbbing, not knowing how those women could cry so much. Many of the officials were already covering their cars. 

Only Zane stood at the back with a cold smirk on his face, thinking, ‘Keep making a scene. It might seem chaotic now, but this is just the beginning!‘ 

Riveria had once been plagued by chaos, but Ethan brought it under control. Although Riveria seemed peaceful and thriving now, there were undercurrents beneath.
