Chapter 31
“What do you mean impossible? They’ve sent over the evidence. Now everyone knows what your son did wrong,” the voice on the phone said mockingly.
Then, with a click, the call ended abruptly.
Simon stood there frozen, unable to process what he just heard. After a while, he hurriedl investigated the matter. When he learned the truth, he nearly fainted from sheer rage.
or so properties The person his son had arrested was not corrupt. Worse still, the dozen were all bought with Ethan’s own money, and the suitcases piled inside were not filled with anything valuable.
Those heartfelt, touching thank–you letters moved many leaders in the federal government..
“How could someone like this be corrupt?”
“Simon, what’s going on here?”
Faced with those questions, Simon was now panicking. His earlier pride had betrayed him, and he felt miserable. In such a short time, his son’s major achievement had turned on its head and was now a major blunder instead.
Thinking about how he had been bragging about his son’s capabilities to everyone, Simon realized he had made a fool of himself in front of everyone!
“Your son’s abilities seem quite lacking,” someone remarked.
Simon’s face darkened. With the facts laid bare before him, he had no way to refute that
statement.
Many people were now casting scornful looks at Simon. He had been arrogant on the phone earlier, but where was that attitude now?
All that bravado about his supposedly impressive son… It turned out that he was framing an innocent man to make himself look good.
Simon tried to keep his composure while answering, “There must be some sort of misunderstanding. I’ll have him investigate this thoroughly right away. Rest assured, I’ve always been fair and just in my work. I won’t let any bad person off the hook, nor will I wrong any good person!”
In truth, he knew about Ethan’s situation because Stephen’s actions in Riveria had been under his guidance. He had hoped his son could solidify the embezzlement charges against. Ethan and get rid of him for good.
That way, Stephen could secure his position in Riveria and take control of the entire

province. Alas, he had not anticipated that things would blow up and become a scandal in the federal government.
After that, Simon quickly left the room. He could not bear to stay there another second–it was simply humiliating.
As soon as he was out, he immediately called George, and the call connected quickly.
“What’s wrong with you?” Simon berated him. “How dare you call me with good news before making sure of the facts? You’ve really screwed me over this time. Do you have any idea how embarrassed I was in front of those people just now?”
George shrank back, not daring to say a word. He, too, felt terrible. He truly did not expect Ethan to have done so many good deeds in secret and, in the process, earned that much recognition from So many people.
When he learned that the suitcases were filled with letters of gratitude, his heart sank. It felt like Ethan had a hidden trump card, and it scared him to death.
Simon berated George for a full five minutes before stopping. The situation was extremely dire. If not handled properly, his son would become the laughingstock of the capital.
