Chapter 40 

The other officers, still dazed, followed his lead. Just like that, this officer managed to lead 

everyone away. 

At that point, Eric was the only person under the tree shade. He waited and waited, growing increasingly anxious when Sky did not appear, but the thought of ice–cold water to drink soon calmed him down a bit. 

Unfortunately, after half an hour, not only was Sky nowhere to be seen, but his officers had also disappeared. 

“Huh? Have they gone missing too?” he muttered. “Do they cannibalize people in this town?” 

He grumbled but remained seated, the thought of searching for his subordinates not once occurring to him. 

It was not until 4 p.m. that Eric, now barely conscious, saw Sky casually strolling toward him with an ice pop in hand. 

Sky had reported Eric’s activities, or lack thereof, to Brandon. “This commander is about to faint, and he hasn’t called anyone.” 

Brandon nodded. “Bring him to me.” 

They had deliberately left Eric in the heat for so long, yet he did not call for backup. That could only mean one thing: Ethan Rivers was truly gone, and the nightmare that had haunted Brandon’s mind was no more! 

Now, Sky stood before Eric, eating his ice pop and looking down at him with a grin. 

“Commander, why do you look so miserable?” 

Eric’s eyes snapped open. “You… Why are you only here now?” 

Sky smiled. “I’m sorry about that. I went home for a nap and overslept.” 

He apologized, but his tone showed no real remorse. 

Eric was furious. However, seeing the ice pop in Sky’s hand, he could not help but swallow hard. 

“Are there any more ice pops?” 

“Nope.” Sky bit off the last of his ice pop, grinning. “We ate quite a number of them. This was the last one.” 

Eric felt like he was about to explode from rage when he heard they had eaten quite a number of them. He had been suffering here while they were eating ice pops, and they had

the gall to finish them all? 

“Do you have any respect for me as a commander?” Eric fumed. 

He remembered how respectful they used to be to the other two commanders, so why were they treating him so casually now? Sky even had the nerve to go home for a nap despite learning they were to receive him. They showed him no respect at all! 

“Oh, I’m sorry, commander,” sky said with a smirk. “Please forgive us. I believe you’ll forgive me.” 

“Help me up!” Eric decided he would settle the score with them later. 

Sky straightened up and said coolly, “I don’t have the strength to pull you up, commander. It’s best you get up yourself. 

“Oh, and Uncle Brandon wants to see you. You’d better hurry. If he goes fishing later, you’ll have to see him tomorrow.” 

Eric clenched his fists.
