The people about to storm up with their metal pipes and machetes all hid their weapons behind their backs and carefully backed away. 

The others who had stepped out of their cars acted as if nothing had happened and got back into their cars. Even the pedestrians instinctively took a few steps back. 

The South Regent was confused, not understanding what had just happened. He slowly looked at Ethan’s hand outside the car window to see Ethan holding a black handgun. 1 

“Give me a minute,” Ethan said as he opened the car door. 

Gun in hand, he stepped out slowly, and the tension among the crowd grew even thicker. No one dared to say a word. 

Ethan walked to the roadside and picked up the bread from the ground, gently brushing off the dust. The woman held her child as she looked at Ethan nervously. 

“The world will not stop for anyone. We need to stop it ourselves,” Ethan said as he handed the bread to the woman. 

The woman dared not take it, fearing those around her would scold her. 

“You don’t need to be afraid. They’re not as strong as you. No one here can compare to the strength of a true mother.” 

The woman gratefully took the bread and joined her hands together in a gesture of thanks to Ethan. 

Ethan straightened up and walked back to the car. 

The South Regent stared blankly at Ethan, his mind racing. He had been enemies with Ethan for quite some time and thought he knew Ethan well, but now, he realized he knew very little about him. 

“Why did you help her?” the South Regent asked, puzzled. “With your status and power, you and her are from completely different worlds. She doesn’t even deserve to see you.”

The South Regent shook his head. 

“That’s exactly why you’ve never beaten me.‘ 

When he first came to this world, he had been alone, hungry, and struggling. That was why he understood better than anyone what the people truly wanted. 

The South Regent fell silent. He started the car but still saw the woman standing by the roadside when they drove away. Her hands were clasped together, her eyes full of gratitude, as she watched them leave as if praying to a higher power.
