Chapter 48
“Ethan River’s dirty tactics aren’t going to work on us!”
Shawn’s words struck a chord in Stephen’s heart.
“Well said!” Stephen excitedly said, “You’re right. Ethan Rivers is a despicable man, and his dirty tactics won’t work on us! We will only be stronger!”
Shawn brought Stephen to the prison and showed him the troublemakers the police had caught. Stephen was delighted that the police were doing their job.
After that, Stephen was then taken to Lytton to meet with Brandon.
“This is the mayor of Lytton, Brandon North. He’s not from here but was brought up by the townspeople after he was adopted as an orphan.
“Not forgetting his roots, Brandon stayed in the town after school and started his own business, which led him to become a successful entrepreneur.
“The businesses in Lytton are some of the best in North Hill City. I know the city is in a bit of a mess right now, with a lot of businesses and investors wanting to leave, but Brandon has never thought of moving.
“In fact, he’s been actively helping us to crack down the rest of Ethan Rivers‘ remaining forces. More importantly, he has provided job opportunities to the city.”
Upon hearing Shawn’s introduction of Brandon, Stephen could not help but admire Brandon. In Stephen’s eyes, Brandon was a person who had gratitude, a sense of responsibility, and the skill to make things happen.
“Nicely done, Brandon.” Stephen shook Brandon’s hand and said, “North Hill City could use more men like you.”
Brandon smiled, saying, “You flatter me. I’m just doing my duty. After all, I grew up here, and unlike others, I won’t forget my roots.
Stephen clapped his hands in approval. “Well said! With people like you, the city will thrive! Seeing your dedication makes me feel much more confident about the future here.”
Brandon lowered his head, humbled. “It is my honor to be able to help.”
Later that evening, Stephen stayed for dinner before he left with Shawn. He was
thoroughly impressed with what he had seen in Lytton.
“North Hill needs more entrepreneurs now than ever. Even though so many people have left the city, Lytton is still standing strong. It’s in times of trouble that you see who’s really
committed.
“Since others want to leave, they can’t blame me for being merciless. From now on, you

can reduce their support and focus more on Lytton,” Stephen said.
Shawn could barely keep from laughing at how stupidly naive Stephen was.
However, he kept a straight face and nodded. “Don’t worry. I’ll make sure it’s done”
Under Shawn’s arrangement, Stephen checked into a hotel that night. Standing by the window, he saw the bustling street beneath his feet. Everything looked normal and lively, with no signs of chaos breaking out.
“It looks like there’s nothing wrong here, but it’s better to keep watch for a little longer,” he murmured.
His future was at stake, after all.
At midnight, he changed into some casual clothes and decided to take a stroll on the street to better understand the situation. Little did he know that Shawn had eyes on him at all
times.
The street outside the hotel was filled with Eric’s men and the townspeople of Lytton, so nothing would happen, at least for the upcoming days. After wandering the streets and finding nothing, Stephen returned to the hotel,
“Ethan Rivers‘ dirty tactics are all foiled. The city is recovering. In time, the economy can
return to normal.”
He stayed at North Hill City for two more days before heading home.
