The Heiress’ Return: Six Brothers at Her Beck and Call (Wynter Quinnell) novel Chapter 1883

Dalton looked momentarily stunned before a charming smile played on his lips. His silky voice drifted to Wynter. "As expected, nothing escapes you. You're right—it does concern Wolf. Chaos has existed since the dawn of the world, but he's different from the other fearsome beasts.

"He had cleansed too much murky energy, so much so that legends said he would bring destruction upon his awakening. But in fact, it's quite the opposite. His slumber breaks only when resentful energy can no longer be contained. Where he stands, the source lies beneath."

Wynter, sharp as ever, caught on to the implication instantly. "You're saying as Havenia falls into mayhem, Wolf may recover his memory and destructive powers."

"I wouldn't go that far," Dalton replied, meeting her gaze.

However, Wynter understood the heavenly law's purpose more than anyone. "You're going to stop him. But how?"

When Dalton remained silent, she grabbed his hand and demanded, "Where exactly did you take Wolf last time? You claimed it was to heal him, but it wasn't at Mt. Dragon, was it?"

Dalton gave a quiet nod and looked at her. "Someone was trying to wake Chaos, so I took him to Mt. Etna. He's bound to that place from the very start."

Wynter cast her eyes down as she clenched her fist. "That's not true. He's been with me in Riverburg, guarding Grandma's clinic. We taught him our language. Not once did he harm another—he even stood up for bullied children.

"He wasn't afraid during missions. So, why should he be locked away in Mt. Etna? He's a human, not a beast."

It was clear that Wynter had become emotional.

When Dalton saw her reddened eyes, his expression turned solemn. He pulled her into his embrace and calmly comforted her. "You're right. I misspoke. You were the one who found Wolf. That means you have the right to decide where he belongs."

Wynter caressed the red thread on Dalton's wrist and asked, "The last divine retribution… It fell upon the mystic spirits and mythical beasts, didn't it?"

Knowing that some truths couldn't be hidden, Dalton could only confess the truth. "Be it mystic spirit, mythical beasts, or mountain gods—their power is no longer needed by humankind.

"To restore balance, the divine retribution shall fall upon the mighty, ensuring the six realms continue to turn. That was when Chaos fell into slumber."

With a darkened gaze, he continued, "After my spiritual sense was sealed, I could no longer oversee all affairs in the world. Chaos was meant to remain by my side, should my spiritual form falter when I awakened. Yet, for some reason, he woke up earlier than I did.

"I lost most of my memories and showed up in Hawford instead. When I saw Chaos again, he was right by your side. I don't think I've ever seen him like that—so innocent and untouched by the world.

"He spent his days happy, thinking only about food. Aside from his greed for money, he's nothing like the person I used to know."

Dalton tucked a strand of Wynter's hair behind her ear, chuckling softly. "Then again, it makes some sense. He was an obedient kid when you first met him, too. Unfortunately, someone has been trying to rouse him for his power. But I know that you won't let that happen, even if I'm not around."

Only then did the redness in Wynter's eyes begin to fade. If Dalton hadn't frozen time around them, people would have surely started turning to look.

Sensing a strange dissonance in her mood, Wynter frowned and turned toward a nearby alleyway. She wondered why she felt agitated upon stepping inside. There was obviously nothing unusual there—in fact, the place was bustling with passersby. There was no reason to feel agitated.

And yet, in that moment, she suddenly saw Dalton as an enemy and nearly reached for the Soul Commanding Badge. Something was off.

Wynter took a moment to contain her hostility before looking at Dalton. "Is there something here I can't quite feel?"

Staring deeper into the alleyway, Dalton explained, "The energy here is messed up. You mentioned you saw a child's spirit when your soul returned. If I'm right, someone has been hunting them down."

Wynter, too, sensed that possibility and urged, "We need to find Wolf—fast."

Jensen, having quietly observed from the sidelines, understood it all. After returning from the underworld, Wynter had been cleansed of her resentful energy. But in its place, a subtle, unshaken hostility clung to her like a shadow.

Wynter's sacrifice of her merits to awaken Dalton from the Earthbound Formation came at a cost. Without those merits, her instinctual displeasure toward the heavenly law had surfaced.

Perhaps it wasn't her true intention. After all, the wicked energy from the underworld still lingered within her. If it had been anyone else, that energy might have consumed them entirely, twisting their thoughts toward vengeance alone.

However, Wynter possessed a strong will. While she had remained composed back in Colifernia, the foreign energy swirling around Havenia had started to wear on her. It appeared that the enemy had slowly corrupted Havenia's fortune from within.

Meanwhile, Wolf watched as the Wendell Corporation poured in yet another billion. He narrowed his eyes, amused at how effortlessly they kept tossing money into the fray.

Beside him, Antoine witnessed the figure climb from 1.5 billion dollars to 2.5 billion dollars. He rubbed his eyes, hardly believing what he was seeing.

If the Chamberlain Group were to go head-to-head with the Wendell Corporation, they could only muster a counter of about two billion dollars at best. However, their opponent had clearly anticipated their strategy and injected 2.5 billion dollars, seeking to push them toward collapse.

If it weren't for Wolf's support, the Chamberlain Group might already be finished.

At that moment, Wolf raised his head and looked at Antoine. "The money they've just thrown in is now ours. Should we give them a little sweetness before the hammer falls, Mr. Antoine?"

Antoine burst into laughter at his suggestion. "I'm all in for whatever plan you have."

Wolf silently nodded and began typing away on the keyboard, altering the data from the back-end. He set the Chamberlain Group's balance to zero while the Wendell Corporation's rose to 40 billion dollars.

When the programmer noticed the change on the screen, he leaped up in excitement. "W-We did it, Mr. Wendell! We beat the Chamberlain Group!"

Freddie almost spat out his tea in surprise before rushing to confirm. "Thank the heavens! That old geezer should've gone down ages ago!"

He swiftly took out his phone and dialed Jordin. "Mr. Iggy, we've successfully acquired the Chamberlain Group!"

"What? Already?" Jordin exclaimed. He wasn't surprised by the acquisition, but by how little time it took.

However, he quickly brushed aside his doubts. The Chamberlain Group might be prestigious in Havenia, but it was still no match for him.

Freddie was quick to claim credit. "Indeed. Rest assured, sir. I'll take down the other corporations next."
