Chapter 35 More To The Story

Samuel continued to vent. “I’ve doted on you for eighteen years! I once traveled across fifteen countries just to get you that stupid cat you wanted! I practically scoured the world’s auction houses to get you that figurine you loved! And now? You can’t even give me one pink diamond? Whether at home or outside, you never stopped tormenting Waverly. You’re heartless!”
A murmur spread through the crowd, and soon, the whispers turned into loud gossip.
“Who knew this fake heiress was treated so well by the Goodridge family, yet she was still unsatisfied?”
She’s an ungrateful brat. No wonder she ended up in prison for thefil”
“Why would Jeremiah even fall for a woman with a criminal record?”
Listening to Samuel’s accusations and the onlookers‘ ridicule, Raylee suddenly let out a cold, mocking laugh.
She locked eyes with Samuel. “You have the audacity to talk about Biscuit? I raised that cat for three years, and the moment Waverly showed up, you handed it to her just because she liked it. She tormented him to death–his guts spilled out in agony and you didn’t say a word. And those figurines? Sure, you bought me plenty. But whose room were they displayed in later? “My clothes, my bags, my shoes–even my books. If Waverly wanted them, you gave them away without even asking me!”
“As for my imprisonment…” Her voice dropped, deadly cold. “You people framed me. You, more than anyone, should know exactly how that happened.”
The mood among the crowd shifted instantly. People now looked at Samuel with skepticism.
“If you put it that way, this real heiress doesn’t seem so innocent. She really did take over everything as soon as she returned.”
“Stealing? It was hers to begin with. They were just giving her back what was rightfully hers.”
“But wait… Is she saying she was framed for that crime? Is there more to her prison sentence than we know?”
“Mr. Goodridge, care to explain what really happened?”
A flicker of unease crossed Samuel’s face. The scandal surrounding Raylee’s imprisonment was something the Goodridge family couldn’t afford to have exposed. He deliberately ignored the topic, his voice defiant. “Waverly suffered for eighteen years because of you. What’s wrong with us compensating her a little?”
He continued, “As for that cat, it was an accident. Waverly had never owned a pet before. She didn’t know chocolate was toxic to cats. I’ve explained this before.”
Faylee’s heart went cold. “No need to keep talking. From now on, I’m severing all ties with you. Let’s never see each other again, even in death.”
Sever all ties Never see each other again, even in death?
Samuel felt as if something inside him snapped. A wave of suffocating regret crashed over him
Have I truly made a mistake mistake that almost cost Ray–Ray her lifet
His throat tightened as he stared at Raylee, an unfamiliar feeling of loss settling deep in his chest. It seemed… it was only natural for Raylee to despise him
Jeremiah’s eyes darkened slightly, a trace of disdain curling at the corner of his lips. “Cutting all ties? Ray–Ray, don’t you think that’s letting him off too easy? He nearly drowned you!“
There’s no point in getting physical with him. If a dog bit me, would I seriously bite it back?” Raylee’s body trembled from weakness, but her eyes burned with fierce intensity. When she glared at Samuel, she wished she could tear him apart.
“Whether you lay a hand on him or just cut ties, either way, it’d still be letting him off too easy! Ray–Ray, listen carefully- only a fool shows mercy to their enemies!”
The moment he finished speaking, Jeremiah pulled out a gun, the dark muzzle aimed directly at Samuel
