Chapter 36 Pull The Trigger
His eyes burned with determination as he challenged, “If you dare, pull the trigger.”
“You think I won’t?” Jeremiah flipped the safety off and slowly squeezed the trigger.
“No!” Casimir let go of the unconscious Shanice and stepped forward to intervene. “Mr. Lorimer, this is a charity dinner. Everyone here is either wealthy or influential. If you fire that gun, are you sure you can handle the massive public backlash that’ll follow?”

He added, “Besides, Samuel is the only son of the Goodridge family. While they may not be as powerful as the Lorimer family, they hold a significant place in Jexburgh’s social circles. Mr. Lorimer, don’t mistake Samuel for Raylee. You you can shape an adopted daughter however you want, but an heir born to the legitimate wife–surely you understand the weight of that title.”
A mocking smirk played at the corners of Jeremiah’s mouth. “Who in this city doesn’t know I’m an illegitimate child? Are you bringing up ‘legitimate heirs‘ just to insult me?”
He scoffed. “Let me make myself clear–I don’t care who they are or where they come from. Anyone who dares harm my fiancée will pay the price!”
Casimir’s face darkened. “Just because you carry the Lorimer name, you think you can do whatever you want? Arrogance leads to disaster, and pride comes before a fall!”
Jeremiah was like 2 wild horse that had broken free, his arrogance blazing out of control, leaving no room for retreat. “Heh… My last name is my greatest asset–and it’s exactly why I can afford to be this bold! This matter has nothing to do with your family. If you don’t want trouble, stay out of itt And as for your sister humiliating my fiancée in public–I’ll be settling that score soon enough.”
Casimir wasn’t intimidated. His words remained just as sharp. “You keep calling Raylee your fiancée, yet here you are, pointing a gun at her brother. If you really kill him, do you think you’ll still get to marry Raylee? Mr. Lorimer, I agree that Samuel was wrong to push Raylee into the water. But there are plenty of ways to make someone pay–you don’t have to go this far.”
Jeremiah’s cold eyes locked onto him. Every movement radiated superiority and
tempt. “Mr. Sutherland, you sure know how to talk. Always so composed, so persuasive. But tell me this–if you’re such a good guy, why didn’t you show some mercy and save Raylee when she fell into the water? You grew up together. You even had an engagement. Wasn’t your bond deep enough?”
Casimir was momentarily speechless.
He had, indeed, hesitated. By the time he realized he should dive in to save her, Jeremiah had already done it first.
Raylee’s heart clenched painfully at Jeremiah’s words. She had been furious when Samuel pushed her into the water. But Casimir’s indifference burt her even more.
Maybe he had been misled into thinking she could swim. Maybe he thought she was faking it—just putting on a show for sympathy. But wasn’t he afraid of what might’ve happened?
They had been engaged. They had grown up together. Didn’t that mean anything?
Kaylee’s face turned pale as she cast a cold glance at Casimir. Despite standing so close, she felt like she could no longer recognize him. Casimir sensed her gaze and met her eyes. For a moment, it felt like a whirlwind of emotions had been unleashed inside him–so tangled, so inexplicable.
Right then, Kaylee was nestled in Jeremiah’s arms, looking fragile, like a shattered porcelain doll in desperate need of protection, Casimir admitted it–he envied Jeremiah. He wished he could be the one holding her. And yet, doubt still gnawed
at him
Did Raylee intentionally pretend to be drowning just to get Jeremiah to rescue her? If that’s true… then she’s far more calculating than i imagined. Where had the once innocent and lively Ray–Ray gune
“Samuel. I hope you remember this shot for the rest of your life!” Jeremiah’s gaze was piercing, his finger tightening on the
