The Marriage She Turned into War novel Chapter 131

"Don't love me. It won't end well."

I used to sneer at those words. I never thought I'd end up using them myself. But even with such blunt honesty, Blair still refused to back off.

Her brows drew together, and she bit her lower lip, looking like an angry little wildcat.

"Samuel, what does Abigail have that I don't? Am I really that unappealing to you?"

Blair's voice wavered with hurt, her eyes searching mine for an answer that might soften the blow.

But what could I say? There were no words to make her understand.

I shook my head and sighed. "Ms. Shepherd, the truth is, you don't really like me."

Her frown deepened, doubt clouding her eyes. "What do you mean by that?"

I held her gaze, my voice calm and firm. "You and Abigail have been rivals in business for a long time. You managed to keep things civil for a while, but after that street race and the fight, everything fell apart.

"This… whatever it is between us, is not love. You just want to win. Whatever she has, you want to have too. It's not about me. It's about beating her."

I paused, looking at her seriously. "This is your need to win, not your feelings for me."

My words hit Blair right where it hurt. Her brows tightened further, frustration and defiance flickering in her eyes.

"Don't talk nonsense. I know how I feel. I don't need you to analyze it for me."

I smiled faintly, the tension easing from my shoulders.

"Ms. Shepherd, if you want to keep our professional relationship, I'm open to that. But anything more than that… I can't give you."
