The Marriage She Turned into War novel Chapter 203

"I don't know. Why don't you just say it?" I countered.

My tone was calm—too calm, apparently. Abigail's expression grew visibly darker, her frustration written all over her face.

"Samuel, I can't believe you'd stoop this low!" she snapped, pointing a finger at me. "I told you before—this is between us. Leave Joshua out of it! Stop dragging other people into our mess."

I couldn't help but laugh when I heard her say that I was dragging people into our mess.

Of all people, Abigail knew exactly what Joshua was capable of. Yet, she chose to ignore the truth and instead clung to his fake sob stories.

Sometimes, I had to admire Joshua's talent. He could perform like an award-winning actor right in front of her, putting on the perfect helpless, innocent act. If he had poured that same energy into acting, he'd probably already have an award by now.

I let out a dry laugh and shook my head, looking at Abigail with a resigned smile. "I get it."

My indifference seemed to irritate her even more.

Her face hardened, and her voice was sharp as she asked, "Then, why do you keep messing with Joshua? Samuel, you know me. I have zero patience for this kind of crap. Stop testing my limits!"

Her words hit like a bucket of ice water. I suddenly felt drained, like all the fight in me had evaporated.

It didn't matter what I said or did. None of it would get through to her. Abigail only ever cared about herself, her version of the story, and her perspective.

I sighed, too tired to argue. "Think whatever you want," I said flatly. "You've already decided, and nothing I say will change that."

Her fury boiled over. Her hand shot out, and the sharp crack of her slap echoed through the room.

The sting burned across my face, but my eyes stayed lifeless and my expression blank. I'd been through this before.
