The Marriage She Turned into War novel Chapter 269

Blair's persistence made it clear she wasn't content with being "just friends". I could tell that she wanted to use friendship as an excuse, and I wanted nothing more to do with her.

"Ms. Shepherd, please try to understand me. I don't want people gossiping about me anymore," I said sincerely. "I'll handle the matter between me and Abigail on my own. I don't need an outsider intervening. Do you understand what I'm saying?"

I didn't want an outsider to meddle in my personal affairs, nor did I want her to pester me recklessly.

Rebecca had warned me repeatedly to handle my affairs carefully and not hurt anyone's feelings. I had always kept that in mind and didn't want my problems to affect others.

Blair gently nodded, forcing a weak smile. "I see where you're coming from, but can't you give me a chance?"

She stepped closer with tears welling up in her eyes. "Just treat me as a friend. Even if it's just an ordinary friend, I'd be happy with that. Is that okay with you?"

I didn't say anything or reject her. I worried that if I did that, she might say something that would embarrass me.

"Which one do you like?"

Blair followed me back into the exhibition hall. As her eyes scanned the items on display, she quickly noticed my mom's emerald pendant.

Noticing my reaction, she hurriedly pointed at it and said enthusiastically, "If you like that emerald pendant, I'll bid on it and give it to you, okay?"

Hearing that, I felt my mood plummeting. Blair's persistence was exhausting. How could she even say that to me?
