Navier turned around, looking at him with confusion. "Is there something you need, Mr. Spencer?" After his long silence, she had to break the ice.
Aubrey released her hand, his gaze fluctuating. "Why did you ask Diana to expose Cathy? What do you want to achieve?"
So, Diana really went ahead with it? Navier wasn't surprised that Diana would confront Cathy on her behalf, but she was surprised that Aubrey would come to her about it.
"All along, it was me who ignored you. I've said it many times before: if you have any dissatisfaction, come to me directly. Don't involve innocent people. Why won't you listen?" he continued, his tone tinged with anger, impatience, and annoyance towards her.
Listening to his words, Navier began to understand a lot. Even if Diana exposed Cathy's fake eye condition, Aubrey still chose that woman. Was she the best choice for him, no matter what she did, even if she committed crimes?
"Mr. Spencer, how dare you think I have time to be dissatisfied with you? Even if I were dissatisfied, we are already divorced, and I wouldn't be petty enough to care," she replied coldly.
Her words were heavy, her eyes icy.
Aubrey looked at her intensely. He had heard such words from her many times after their divorce, but every time she said it, she didn't follow through with her actions. He didn't believe her!
Navier knew Aubrey too well. With just one change in his expression, she could guess what he was thinking.
Seeing that expression, a surge of bitterness welled up in her heart.
Someone who didn't keep their word naturally thought that others were also not worth trusting. Aubrey was such a person.
"I indeed targeted her because of a personal grudge. Mr. Spencer, don't think too highly of yourself and imagine things. The matter between me and her has nothing to do with you," Navier retorted.
Unmasking Cathy was not even an act of revenge. It was simply because she didn't want her taking credit for her achievements.
Her expression was cold, and her eyes even colder.
Once upon a time, her eyes used to be filled with admiration when looking at him, but now there was no trace of him left in her heart.
Aubrey clearly saw the cold, distant look in her eyes, and his chest suddenly felt stifled.
"What grudge do you have with Cathy?" He suddenly wanted to know.
Navier smiled sadly.
"What grudge?" she repeated.
The grudge between them was indeed hateful.
Numerous scenes flashed through her mind.
With a slight smile, she didn't want to hide anything and spoke, "She and I..."
Before she could finish her sentence, Aubrey's phone rang.
He answered the call, and whatever was said on the other end made his expression tense. He said, "I'll be right there!" in a cold voice before hanging up.
Navier looked at him.
Although she didn't know what was said on the other end or who called, she knew that whatever it was, it was urgent enough to make Aubrey leave right away.
For Cathy, he had come here to confront her at midnight. And now, for her, he was rushing back again.
Cathy's life must really be extraordinary.
"I don't care about the grudge between you and Cathy. She's with me now, and I will protect her!" Aubrey said, obviously not in the mood to continue talking to Navier.
After saying that, he got into his car and drove away.
Watching the retreating car, Navier chuckled softly.
She could have continued to live with grace and pride.
But she knew that she couldn't get angry anymore. If she did, it would raise Linda's suspicions, and if the past was revealed again, she would lose even more face.
The things about Navier being the "big-eyed girl," her being mistaken for the "big-eyed girl" by Aubrey, and her voluntarily claiming credit for someone else's accomplishments-even her best friend Linda mustn't know about it!
Taking a deep breath, she looked at Linda. "I'm really sorry, Linda. I didn't mean to get angry with you. Actually, it was for my own good that you came up with the cornea idea, wanting to help me. It was my impulsiveness and thoughtless words. Linda, you're not mad at me, right?"
Her tone was gentle, with a hint of pitifulness. She gently shook Linda's arm.
Cathy was Linda's goddess, the most perfect image, so how could Linda be angry with her?
Linda shook her head, "It's actually my fault. If I hadn't acted on my own, you wouldn't have faced such an embarrassing situation. Don't worry, I will talk to Mr. Spencer and clear up the misunderstanding between you two."
"No, there's no need for that, Linda. You didn't do anything wrong." Cathy tried to persuade her, "The situation has already turned out like this. Listen to me, don't do anything else."
The more Cathy acted like this, the more guilty Linda felt, and the more determined she was to help Cathy clear her name.
She didn't say anything on the surface and stayed with Cathy for a while before leaving.
After closing the door, a faint smile of success appeared on Cathy's beautiful and glamorous face.
She understood Linda and knew that she would go to Aubrey to shoulder all the responsibility.
Although Aubrey had forgiven her because she was the "big-eyed girl," this matter would still create a rift between them.
Only if Linda took the initiative to take the blame could their relationship return to normal.
"Linda, this is really your own bad idea, not my fault," Cathy thought to herself, believing that she had a clear sense of right and wrong and felt not a trace of guilt.
