The Night I Let Go novel Chapter 19

Two and a half hours later, Zachary went downstairs with a frown and headed to Yel Corporation with Anya.

Not long after, the car arrived at the company's parking lot. Zachary insisted on letting Anya enter the company building first, while he waited and entered five minutes after she did.

He did so mainly because he didn't want to spark needless troubles and rumors.

After all, when he had first officially joined the business department, curious coworkers had asked him about his relationship with Anya. Back then, Zachary had stated that they were just friends and that it was thanks to Anya that he had found this job.

His coworkers never doubted his words, simply because Zachary's resume showed no work experience. Moreover, a large company like Yel Corporation couldn't possibly have recruited a novice with no working experience.

"Zachary, you're quite impressive! That lady from the Stewart family is notoriously difficult to handle, but you managed to deal with her with a single trip!"

As soon as Zachary sat at his desk, the manager of the business department came over and greeted him warmly before showering him with praise.

Hearing that, his coworkers looked at him with surprise.

"I simply got lucky." Zachary smiled and nodded, but he felt bitter on the inside.

For the sake of this mission, he had been forcibly kissed by Ellen for the second time. He was even stripped naked and was almost violated.

He couldn't help but recall the past.

His ex-wife, Wendy, was quite the germaphobe. Even after they got married, they would, at most, only hold hands or share a hug. Aside from that, they had no further intimate interactions.

His first kiss had been forcefully taken by Ellen three years ago. That was the reason why Wendy had flown into a rage and broken ties with Ellen.

He had his second kiss with Ellen as well, which had also been forcefully taken.

Come to think of it, it was pretty ridiculous.

After a brief chat with the manager, Zachary buried himself in his work again. His tasks were not heavy. All he had to do was organize some clients' data.

At the Yelbric airport, Wendy stood in the arrivals hall, looking somewhat tired with noticeably bloodshot eyes.

She stared blankly ahead. Everything that had happened last night was still playing in her mind.

The thought of Zachary betraying her and getting it on with Ellen all night made Wendy feel glum. It felt as if someone had taken away her favorite toy, and she was struggling to accept it.

"Wendy!"

Possibly because she was so lost in thought, she didn't even realize that Ethan was in front of her.

Ethan placed his hand on her forehead naturally.

"You look unwell. Are you sick?" he asked in a caring voice.

Startled, Wendy frantically took a step back. It was only when she recognized the man before her that she finally relaxed.

She smiled. "It's nothing. I just couldn't sleep last night. I'll be fine after getting some rest."

Ethan asked, "Was it because of the company?"

"Well, you could say that." Wendy didn't want to talk about Zachary and just nodded.

"Don't worry. I said that I'd help you, and I will. I came home this time to attend to some family matters." Ethan paused and smiled before adding, "And to ask my uncle for help."

"Hm?" Wendy furrowed her brows slightly and gave Ethan a somewhat inquisitive look.

"My uncle works in real estate. He's been preparing to invest in other industries recently. So, I've approached and asked him to invest in Jennings Corporation."

The furrow in Wendy's brows deepened. "What Jennings Corporation needs is partners and business opportunities, not investments. Besides, the company is well-funded."

"Wendy, did a lack of rest dull your mind?"

Ethan raised his hand to stroke Wendy's head.

Wendy's body stiffened. She was going to move away, but then she remembered what Zachary had done and changed her mind.
