She shot Hazel a look and retorted, “Are we even that close? Do you really think I’ll call Fin just to ask what he’s doing? Have you forgotten how you tried to set me up not long ago? Do you need a reminder of how absurd that is?” 

Hazel hadn’t expected Emily to be so bitter. She gave a polite smile, trying to ease the tension. “Emily, I already said I was sorry. I even gave you a diamond necklace to make things right. Can’t we just let it go?” 

Oh, the nerve of her; she actually dares to bring up that necklace! Emily fumed. I might still have it if she’d just given me that necklace quietly, but Samantha snatched it away. The more I think about it, the angrier I get. Ugh! I could strangle that girl. All I did was ask for a favor, and I lost it! 

With a sigh, Emily replied cuttingly, “Hazel, you’ve got to understand that not everything can be smoothed over with a necklace. I’ve got stuff to do, so I’m done here. Handle your own business.”

Yanking her arm free, Emily snapped, “Hazel, I’ve reached my limit. I’ve already told you I’m not helping, so quit dogging me. Or is being pushy just your style?”
