Several years prior, a real estate developer had initiated a construction project in this area, but for some reason, it was left incomplete.
The site was now littered with construction debris, and the unfinished structures were occupied by beggars and the homeless.
The entire area exuded an overwhelming sense of dese world.

Freya trailed behind Sawyer, their footsteps echoing on the concrete floor as they ascended the partially covered, railing–less staircase. They continued their climb until they reached the top, approximately seven or eight stories high.
Climbing the stairs had left Freya slightly winded. As she paused to catch her breath, Sawyer, who had been leading the way, turned around and smiled at her, “Ms. Gomez, you’re quite courageous. Aren’t you afraid I might harm you here?”
Freya was momentarily taken aback before she responded with a wry smile, “It doesn’t matter. I’ve been wanting to die, but I just can’t bring myself to do it. If you could help, that would be great.”
Sawyer had intended his comment as a joke, but seeing the despair in her eyes tugged at his heartstrings.
It was this very look that had captivated him three years ago.
Three years later, she was still as captivating.
Sawyer ceased his jesting and settled down on a pile of rubble, his gaze fixed on the lake in the distance. From this vantage point, the view was unexpectedly breathtaking.
Freya joined him, equally captivated by the stunning scenery before them.
The sight of such a beautiful lake amidst the urban jungle of steel and concrete left Freya momentarily speechless.
Sawyer turned to look at Freya, surprised to find himself in her company once again.
She was undeniably beautiful, even her profile was enough to make hearts skip a beat.
“When did you get rid of the scar on your face? Your plastic surgeon is truly exceptional!” Sawyer gave Freya a thumbs up.
Freya ignored him, a wry smile playing on her lips. Nathaniel had certainly chosen a top–notch doctor.
“I think we should cut the small talk, don’t you?” Freya turned her gaze to Sawyer.
“When did you meet me, and how do you
know about my child?”
Sawyer had hoped to engage in more casual conversation to build rapport with Freya, but her interruption caught him off guard.

and nearly died. You were delirious with fever, crying and screaming. If I hadn’t saved you, you would have suffered brain damage.”
Freya’s eyes widened in disbelief as she turned to Sawyer, “It was you?”
“No, why don’t I remember you.”
