Chapter 152 Don’t Challenge My Limits
Nathaniel was genuinely taken aback, but Freya’s candidness only served to heighten his discomfort.
Freya began, “Sawyer mentioned a post–apocalyptic, postmodern landscape nestled amidst an unfinished building to the west of the city, near the lake.”
“He claimed to know the way, so I followed him. He we had to take his motorcycle.”
oned that the route was not car–friendly, so
“Over the past few days, I’ve been visiting Dr. Guillermo at East Saeville Nursing Home for medication adjustments. I’ve seen him a few times, so I’m quite familiar with him.”
Freya’s lie was so blatant that even an average person would find it hard to believe, let alone a man as astute as Nathaniel.
Yet, she felt compelled to say it. As the words left her mouth, she felt as though she had crossed a line, and all that remained was to see how he would react.
She studied Nathaniel’s expression, his handsome face, and replayed Sawyer’s words in her mind.
She had one powerful weapon against Nathaniel – herself.
As much as she despised this fact, she relied on it.
The high stakes of the situation were driving her to the brink of insanity.
Freya took a step forward, suppressing her fear, and moved so close to Nathaniel that she could hear his heartbeat.
“I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have hopped onto someone else’s motorcycle so casually,” Freya’s voice quivered slightly as she reached up to unbutton his coat.
“Enough!” Nathaniel’s face was ashen, and he swiftly grabbed Freya’s wrist.
He knew what she was trying to do. Was she attempting to use herself as a bargaining chip to appease him and make him drop the matter?
He glared at Freya. Did she see him as a heartless beast?
He had waited for her here for over five hours, and this was her explanation?
Was she willing to degrade herself to get him to let her off the hook?
“Freya! You’re truly regressing!”
Nathaniel clenched his jaw, and pushed Freya away. She lost her balance and fell onto the bed.
She looked up at Nathaniel’s livid face, realizing that her gamble had paid off. He probably didn’t care much for her tonight, and might even be repulsed by her.
Nathaniel glared at Freya, “The Lloyd brothers could outsmart you with case.”
