Chapter 141
Jason looked straight at Evelyn once more. Her expression was as cool as a cucumber, betraying no emotion. Her eyes no longer had the politeness and tolerance she had shown toward them in the past. All that was left was a chilling distance.
Evelyn was different.
“Yeah, I’m spending it with my granny.” Evelyn merely answered his question and had no plans to provide any explanation.
jason was a little surprised. However, he knew she had no intention of chatting with him much. As for why her attitude was like this, he could understand her.
The elevator reached the desired floor with a ding. Evelyn looked back at Jason, nodded at him, and left.
Jason saw heroft until she vanished at the comer. The elevator closed its doors once more.
After a moment, he pinched the bridge of his nose. His smile vanished.
He found himself a little weird. She clearly wanted to ignore him, yet he wanted to chat with her. He always felt that he never trully understood her.
Back in Deborah and Leonard’s room, the hotel gave them a beautiful plate of fruit. Deborah smiled as she said to Evelyn, “Evie, eat up. A hotel staff member just came over and said the bonfire will be at ten. Are you going?”
Evelyn walked over. Leonard had already speared a peach on his fork and brought it to her mouth
Evelyn ate it before saying, “Depends on when I’m done going through my documents. Both of you can go join the fun.”
Deborah looked at her gruffly, mentioning, “You’re so busy even during Easter. You’re now a workaholic”
Leonard couldn’t bear to chastise her, so he interrupted with a chuckle, “Mom, Evie has always been headstrong and strives to do the best in everything she does. If she likes it, we’ll just have to support her.”
Evelyn immediately changed the topic. “Easter dinner is at 7:00 pm sharp. The dining seats have been confirmed. Granny, why don’t the two of you go downstairs and take a look?”
Deborah was still at that stage where she found the experience refreshing, so she immediately replied, “Suce!
She pushed Leonard and went ahead.
Evelyn took the opportunity to sort out what remained of her work. In the end, a ringing sound from her computer brought her back to the present.
She glanced at it. It was Sharron.
Usually, Sharron never contacted her as she didn’t acknowledge Evelyn as her daughter–in–law. She treated her as if she didn’t exist, regardless of the setting. After a moment of hesitation, Evelyn answered the call.
darity was even rater. If outsiders were present, Sharron
Hermind whirred as she did so. Sharron rarely met her in the past, and Evelyn addressing her with familiarity w only allowed Evelyn to call her Mrs. Grant.
Evelyn and Lucas were now divorced, so she didn’t plan on addressing her with familiarity.
Before Evelyn could finish her words, Sharron’s cold and dissatisfied voice could be heard.
“Where are you? Why aren’t you here yet?”
Evelyn raised her head and looked out the window. She could faintly see that there were people already lighting fireworks.
