The Queen Returns—And She's Unforgiving novel Chapter 165

Evelyn's breath hitched slightly as she furrowed her brows, glancing at Blake.

Then, her gaze moved to Lucas, who was still coldly indifferent. He had no interest in whatever was happening between Evelyn and Blake.

She noticed it was likely because Blake had mentioned the word "wife" that Lucas subtly furrowed his brows.

Before he could speak, his phone rang again. Lucas glanced at the screen, saw it was a call from Tiffany, and answered.

His expression softened significantly as he said, "Alright, I'll head back now."

Evelyn could easily tell the shift in his mood from how soft his voice was.

He hadn't responded to Blake but nodded at Evelyn before quickly leaving. It was as though she were a stranger to him.

It was clear that only Tiffany could make him react that way.

Evelyn quietly withdrew her gaze. As someone personally involved in the situation, no one could understand the subtle mockery and indifference from Lucas and Blake better than her.

As for Blake's words and attitude, she had given up on asking him for help. She did not say anything else and left.

Blake stood in place, watching her retreating figure.

She seemed weak, so thin and delicate that a gust of wind could break her.

He frowned abruptly, taking a deep drag from his cigarette to suppress the unease rising in his chest.

He convinced himself it was just a fleeting illusion.

In the end, Evelyn was unable to meet Fergus, causing her mood to inevitably dip.

Scanning the room, she couldn't spot anyone who resembled the distinguished expert she was looking for.

As the dinner came to an end, people began to leave, one by one.

With no other options, Evelyn decided to brainstorm a new plan while Justine went to get the car.

Evelyn stood at the door, waiting.

The cold winds of winter sliced through Clementon, and despite being bundled in a long puffer jacket she'd prepared in advance, she still felt a chill deep in her bones.

The sound of approaching voices broke her out of her thoughts.
