Lucas walked in confidently while dressed in a black oversized coat. His refined features remained impassive, his eyes cold as they settled on Evelyn.
There was no sign of the typical emotions someone would expect in a divorce situation—no anger, no regret.
Behind him were Mason and a distinguished-looking man.
Mason patted the man next to him. "Morgan, the rest is in your hands. Make sure to discuss the divorce terms with Evelyn properly on Lucas' behalf."
Upon hearing that Lucas was getting a divorce, Mason immediately contacted his cousin, Morgan Harvey. Morgan was one of the top lawyers in the country.
From Mason's perspective, Evelyn had been with Lucas for so long, and now that she was asking for a divorce, he assumed she would make unreasonable demands. He thought it best to have a lawyer there to curb her "misguided intentions".
After all, she had used underhanded tactics to climb to where she was. Now that the divorce was happening, he wasn't going to let her get away with anything.
Morgan turned to Evelyn, nodding politely. "Hello, Ms. Reed. I'm Morgan Harvey, Mr. Grant's lawyer."
Evelyn simply nodded in return.
Her own lawyer, Immanuel Sherman, stood up in surprise when he saw Morgan. "Mr. Harvey, long time no see."
They both knew each other well as they were part of the same legal circle in Clementon.
Evelyn glanced at Immanuel, who explained, "Mr. Harvey is my senior. He has his own firm now and is one of the top lawyers in the country. He usually handles major financial cases. Given today's situation, he'll likely need to do some negotiating."
Evelyn immediately understood what Immanuel meant.
What he called "negotiating" meant things were likely going to be difficult.
She had only wanted the ring, but with Morgan present, it seemed unlikely that Immanuel could help her get a good deal.
She couldn't understand why Lucas would bring in a lawyer, especially since she had already left everything out of the divorce agreement.
Was he worried about some loophole? Did he think she was trying to play games with him?
It seemed like he was preparing for her to fight back.
Lucas sat across from her. Morgan opened his briefcase and laid out the divorce agreement.
Lucas slid it across the table to Evelyn and said in a tone as indifferent as ever, "Take a look. If there's anything else you want, we can add it in."
