Sebastian was simmering with frustration.
When he went to grab the cake just now, the barbecue area was buzzing with energy.
Lucas was there with Tiffany, laughing and chatting with Mason and the others.
It was also then that Sebastian overheard Tim from Holt Corporation gossiping, saying that Tiffany had seen fireworks go off at the harbor. She wanted to see more of it, so he arranged the whole spectacle just for her.
What a show he put on!
But did Lucas even remember that today was Evelyn's birthday?
How could he be out there having fun with another woman on her birthday?
Evelyn stood by the window and stared at the dazzling fireworks. They reflected like dreams in her eyes through the glass.
Memories that were buried deep surfaced once more.
The night she was diagnosed with cancer, there had been a fireworks display just like this, beautiful and surreal.
Lucas lit fireworks for Tiffany on her birthday.
Now, on Evelyn's birthday, he lit even prettier fireworks for Tiffany.
Eventually, she quietly looked away and turned to Sebastian. "It's alright. Don't waste your emotions on things that aren't worth it."
Still, Sebastian felt that this was too much. "I just think that he went too far with this. He's not even pretending anymore."
Was a simple birthday wish that hard to say?
Evelyn gathered the materials she was going to discuss with Graham later. "It's not a roll call. If he shows up, we will have to share our cake with him. Isn't it better to enjoy it ourselves?"
Sebastian was rendered speechless. That somehow made sense.
He felt a little proud. Their birthday star had such a pure heart. It made him feel so much better.
Evelyn was just about to head to Graham's room with Sebastian when she received a message.
It was from Blake. "Come downstairs."
Evelyn frowned.
Another message quickly followed, "I'm downstairs, at the hotel entrance."
She was not particularly surprised. With so many companies visiting the base, it would not be hard for someone like Blake to figure out which hotel she was staying at.
She did not want to respond, but Blake had already called her.
Evelyn frowned slightly. Given that he was already downstairs, it was hard to avoid him.
"Who is it?" Sebastian asked.
Evelyn's expression stayed the same as she said, "Seb, go on ahead. I'll answer this call first."
Sebastian did not think too much about it. He took the cake and headed to Graham's room.
Evelyn answered the call, turning to look at the fireworks Lucas had set off to make his girlfriend happy.
There was a moment of silence on the other end before Blake finally spoke lazily. "How about we meet up later? To celebrate your birthday."
"I'm busy," Evelyn replied coldly.
Blake chuckled lightly as if he had not understood her intention. "Busy with what?"
Evelyn frowned. She heard the click of a lighter. He was probably smoking now.
"I brought Jessica here to shop today," Blake said. "We met with our wedding dress designer."
"Congrats," Evelyn said sincerely as she watched the fireworks outside the window.
Caught off guard, Blake went silent.
Then, his tone turned dark. "So I'm here. To spend your Birthday. With you."
"There's no need. I have plans."
