The Queen Returns—And She's Unforgiving novel Chapter 271

Evelyn was caught off guard by the sudden question. Her expression turned cold, but she quickly composed herself as she understood the situation.

Maria was right there, listening. Lucas was, of course, playing a part. He didn't truly want Evelyn to visit the hospital.

Evelyn continued to look at the blueprints in front of her, her voice calm. "Let me check the time."

There was a brief silence on the other end of the line before Lucas leisurely replied, "Mm, don't forget to eat."

Without giving her a chance to respond, he quickly hung up, cutting off any further conversation.

Evelyn wasn't affected by his "concern" about her meals. It was nothing more than an obligatory act, one of many facades he put up, with no genuine intent behind it.

She put down her phone and resumed her work, continuing to calculate and review the plans in front of her.

At the hospital, Lucas glanced at his phone. Noticing that the call had ended so abruptly, Maria shot him a disapproving look. "Why did you hang up so quickly? Are you in such a rush?"

Lucas looked down at his laptop screen and raised an eyebrow at her. "She hasn't eaten yet. She's been on the phone the whole time, which has kept her tied up."

Maria was taken aback for a moment before responding, "You seem to know a lot."

After a pause, she asked, "Have you cleared things up with Evelyn about the Miller family matters?"

Lucas didn't answer immediately, his fingers gently tapping away on the keyboard. He gave a faint smile, which could be interpreted as a response.

Maria grew irritated by his attitude. "Stop dodging the question. You know how Evelyn feels about you. I'm warning you—don't make trouble outside. Know when to stop!"

She paused and then asked sternly, "You haven't crossed any lines, have you? As for that woman from the Moore family—if you don't handle things properly, don't blame me for taking her out of the picture."

Lucas stopped typing, a smile appearing at the corners of his lips, but his eyes showed no sign of yielding. "Grandma, you know me. Once I do something, I never regret it."

Nor did he ever easily give in.

Maria's heart skipped a beat when she realized the unspoken meaning behind his words. She froze, unsure of how to react.

After a long moment, she sighed. She could pick up on the unspoken firmness in Lucas' tone.
