When Evelyn opened the door, she saw a resort staff member in a uniform standing there. The staff member smiled warmly. "Ms. Reed, are you satisfied with this room? There are rooms with better views on this floor. Would you like us to switch you to one?"
Evelyn glanced back at the suite. This resort was top-tier, and her room was already among the best.
She shook her head. "No need. This one's great."
The staff member hesitated for a moment but eventually smiled. "Alright, Ms. Reed. If you need anything, just let me know."
Evelyn didn't think much of it. After closing the door, she returned to unpacking her clothes. The celebratory banquet was relatively casual. It was designed for everyone to relax.
She had been swamped lately and was honestly exhausted, but the resort boasted a full range of entertainment facilities, such as hot springs infused with herbal remedies. She had even packed a swimsuit, hoping to unwind in her free time.
When Evelyn finished organizing her things, it was just past 5:00 pm. She needed to change and head to the main venue.
Her phone chimed twice. Evelyn picked it up and checked. It was a WhatsApp message from Maria.
"Evie, I stopped by your marital property today. It has completely transformed. I'd say two or three more months for the smaller detailed works and it'll be done."
Below were several photos.
Even without enlarging them, Evelyn recognized the living room from multiple angles. The changes were stark. It was almost unrecognizable.
The site was still in the structural and hard-finishing phase. Parts of the decor were a complete departure from what she had once designed.
She had known Lucas had gutted the interior of their marital property, but it hadn't felt real then.
Seeing the photos of the site now, she realized he truly hadn't spared a single trace of the home she had personally designed. He had gutted that five-story house from top to bottom, erasing every last remnant of her presence.
It was as if those years had been unbearable for him.
