The Queen Returns—And She's Unforgiving novel Chapter 69

Evelyn woke up feeling limp and weak. As soon as she moved a little, she heard Fiona exclaim next to her, "You're awake! Are you still feeling unwell?"

Evelyn turned to her and asked, "Why are you…"

Fiona helped Evelyn sit up in bed and replied, "My brother and I brought you to the hospital. He has gone to print your medical report for you. We were worried that you were unwell, so we had them do a thorough check-up on you."

"Which floor is he on?" Evelyn's expression changed a little. She pulled the cover away and got out of bed.

Fiona froze for a moment before she replied, "He's on this floor."

Evelyn could not care about the discomfort her body was feeling anymore and rushed out of the ward frantically. She ran straight to the printing area on the same floor.

Sure enough, she saw Jason there. The report was coming out of the printer in front of him.

Evelyn ran over and grabbed the report, holding it tightly in her hands.

Jason was shocked. "You're awake? Why did you come out?"

Evelyn's heart was still pounding, and her lips were pursed. "Where's my ID?" she asked.

Seeing her icy gaze left Jason stunned for a few seconds before he handed the ID to her. "I'm sorry. It was an emergency, so I went through your purse without your permission and grabbed your ID."

Evelyn noticed that there was nothing unusual about Jason. He probably had not noticed the problem in her report. It was only then that Evelyn let out a sigh of relief.

She could not and would not dare to gamble with this.

If Jason found out about her condition, then she would not be able to keep it a secret from Lucas anymore. If that were to happen, a butterfly effect would kick in motion, and she would not be able to bear the consequences.

If Lucas found out the truth, he certainly would not spare her any decency. He might go to Leonard and Deborah and use Evelyn's terminal illness as an excuse to ask for a divorce. Evelyn did not want things to end up like that.

"Thank you," said Evelyn. She was not someone who could not tell right from wrong. "How much is the medical expenses? I'll transfer the money to you."

Jason noticed she was being aloof. Pursing his lips, he replied, "No need. It's not much. You still don't look too well. Since the report is out, do you want to ask the doctor about it?"

"It's just a fever. It's no big deal," Evelyn declined.

Jason looked at her with a complicated expression and said, "But you said you were in pain when you were unconscious…"

Evelyn was thin and weak. When she was unconscious, she could not help but curl up in a ball to protect herself and muttered under her breath.
