The Returning EX (John and Sophia) novel Chapter 1684

Chapter 1684 Can We Do It Today?

The elevator stopped with a ding as it arrived at their floor. They could already hear Aurora’s voice coming from outside. “Where did both of you go? Why did you guys take so—” She didn’t finish her sentence.

Once the elevator doors were fully open, Aurora could see Ian pressing Cindy against the wall. They were very close to each other, and Aurora immediately turned around to walk back to the house when she saw them in that position. “I was about to go down to look for you guys. Hurry up and have your breakfast! The food is turning cold.”

Ian turned to look at Aurora’s retreating figure, and he hastily pulled his arm away before straightening his back. Cindy took this opportunity to sprint out of the elevator. She took a few deep breaths once she made her way out.

Aurora had locked the front door since she intended to go down in search of the couple. Right then, she unlocked the door as quickly as she could before letting herself in. The door was left open, and Cindy peeked into the house when she first got to the door. She only stepped into the unit when she made sure that Aurora wasn’t waiting for her at the entrance.

When Cindy pressed a palm against her cheek, she could still feel her skin burning from earlier. She walked along the entrance hallway into the living area to find Aurora sitting at the dining table. After some hesitation, Cindy pursed her lips and walked to the bathroom to wash her hands and face.

Ian hadn’t returned home even after Cindy was done washing up. She walked out to find that it was still Aurora sitting alone at the dining table, which surprised Cindy. She walked toward the dining table while taking a subtle glance at the door. The door’s still open, which means that Ian isn’t back yet.

Aurora hadn’t started digging in yet. She simply crossed her arms in front of her chest as she stared at Cindy. Cindy tried her best to maintain a calm expression as she sat down beside Aurora. “What were you guys doing in the elevator?” Aurora turned to look at Cindy with a smile on her face.

Cindy quickly took a sip of her milk. “Nothing much. What could we possibly do in the elevator?”

“Tsk, tsk. Nothing much, huh? Why were you guys hugging each other, then?” Aurora continued questioning her. Cindy’s eyes widened as she stared at Aurora. “What nonsense is that? We weren’t hugging each other. We didn’t do such a thing.”

“Why are you guys so shy to admit it?” Aurora stuck her bottom lip out. “What’s wrong with hugging one another? You guys are a couple—it’d be normal even if you guys kissed.”

Cindy’s expression turned more and more serious by the second. “We really weren’t hugging each other. Why would we do that?”

“Why not?” Aurora was puzzled. “You guys are a couple—what’s so odd about that?”

Cindy didn’t have much of a comeback for that—it was true that she and Ian had made a public announcement about their romantic relationship. After taking a look at the front door, Aurora turned back to Cindy. “What’s going on? Why isn’t he coming in? Are you guys shy after I caught you guys like that?” She let out a laugh. “What’s there to be shy about? You guys barely did anything. There are way more couples who show even more affection to each other in public.”

Cindy didn’t respond since she didn’t know why Ian wasn’t home either. Furthermore, her face was starting to feel hot again as she thought about how Ian had treated her earlier. At this moment, Ian was smoking a cigarette outside. He was standing by the window near the stairway. He wasn’t addicted to cigarettes, and one pack could last him an entire month.

The pack he was smoking was from the last time someone released bad rumors about him. He had been going through a few bad days, and he had just had a fight with Cindy when he bought that pack. With a cigarette dangling from his lips, Ian gazed out of the window. The weather was good today, and Ian came to a sudden decision.

After hesitating for a while, Ian pulled his phone out to call Sean.

“Yes?” Sean answered the call almost instantly.

“Can we do it today?” Ian asked. Sean understood what Ian meant, but he hesitated for a moment before he spoke. “Sure. What time will you be free?”

Ian was free any time of the day as he didn’t have a single task to complete on his trip back home this time. When Ian told Sean that he was free the whole day, Sean offered to plan the visit. “I’ll contact the hospital to liaise with them, and I’ll call you back in a while.”

Moments later, Ian received another call from Sean. “You can come during noontime,” Sean uttered.
