The Returning EX (John and Sophia) novel Chapter 1916

Chapter 1916 Impatience

In the end, Aurora said, “Yes. I see. You can do your own stuff now. I don’t have anything going on here.” A while later, Aurora hung up.

Cindy thought the man would come and harass Aurora again, but it seemed like that was not the case judging by Aurora’s look.

Aurora put her phone down and poured a cup of tea for herself, then she downed it in a single gulp. “I knew it. He’s an impatient man.” She smiled.

Cindy asked, “What happened? What did he say?”

Aurora leaned against the chair and placed her hands on her lap. “He said he’s going home to settle his grandchild’s matter, so he’s saying goodbye.”

Cindy was quiet for a moment, then she asked, “Did he say what the matter was?”

Aurora shook her head. “No. Actually, I can tell that it’s just an excuse.”

They had lived together for years, and they knew each other. She didn’t even need to see his face to know that it was an excuse. His tone told her that much. Neither of them were fools. The man only came to see her twice, and he knew she wouldn’t give him another chance that easily, or worse, she wouldn’t give him another chance at all.

At their age, time was a precious commodity, so the man didn’t want to spend so much time on her. Coming up with an excuse instead of leaving quietly was already being polite enough.

Cindy didn’t know what she should say. To be honest, she didn’t think the man was doing anything wrong. Pulling out when he saw no hope was something an adult should do. However, that decisive attitude was a slight letdown when it came to relationships.

The man had come all the way just to leave after hitting a wall once. Obviously, he didn’t love Aurora that much. Naturally, Aurora must feel defeated, but none of them were wrong, really. The man was too rational, and if Aurora wasn’t giving him any chance, she shouldn’t waste his time.

Cindy poured Aurora a cup of tea. “Let’s not talk about this. It’s good that he left. If he stays, it’ll just annoy you.” She continued, “Let’s just focus on our careers now. Men will only stand in your way to fame and money. It’s better that he left.”

Aurora felt better, and she forced a smile. “You’re right. Men are just going to get in the way of me making money. Let’s not talk about this. I was just about to come up with an excuse to chase him away if he looked for me again. Honestly, I don’t feel at ease with him around.”

She was worried some paparazzi might notice it and write some unsavory article. She had to tread carefully, for one wrong step could cost her her hard-earned comeback. She couldn’t afford to lose again at her age.

While they waited for the food to be served, the ladies ordered some fruit wine that was low in alcohol content. Cindy didn’t dare to drink much. She poured herself a cup and took small sips. The taste of alcohol took a backseat as the flavor of fruit filled her mouth.

Aurora remembered something, and she said, “Oh, Hannah called me last night. She wants me to sing the OST for the drama. Even if I’m not going to work on set, I’ll still be busy.”

Cindy paused for a moment, then she felt happy for Aurora. “That’s good news. You are a singer in the first place. It’s great if you can pick your old profession up.”
