The Returning EX (John and Sophia) novel Chapter 1943

Chapter 1943 Conflicted

I was rather puzzled by the fact that I had been hired. Judging by what Serena said earlier, it sounds like I got in because of some connections. But it’s obvious that Ian wasn’t the one who helped me. The next person I can think of is Gary, but that doesn’t seem too possible. I’m not that close to Gary, so he didn’t need to help me out at all. He did mention something about it that day, but I didn’t pay much attention to it. Some forms of help may feel nice and natural, but if this was the help he offered me, I think it’s a little too awkward and forced, Cindy thought.

Before she could start on her work, someone rolled their chair over to her seat. She was startled as she turned to look at the person who had come over. “Yes?”

That person moved her chair a little closer to Cindy before she whispered in Cindy’s ear. “Why did Miss Warhol call you into her office?”

Cindy waved the documents in her hand. “She passed this to me and told me to pick a topic from here. She wants me to submit my design to her.”

The girl didn’t seem to believe Cindy’s words. “Is that all?”

Cindy gave the girl an innocent look. “That’s all. She didn’t say anything else.”

The girl smacked her lips. “That’s not right.” Cindy was puzzled by the girl’s words. “Why would you say that? Is there something I should know?”

The girl pouted and hesitated for a moment before speaking. “Before you came in, there were a few others who applied for this role. The HR department gave the green light to hire them, but they all got rejected after meeting Miss Warhol. So, I was wondering how you’re different from the rest of them.”

Cindy was just as curious as she was. She wanted to figure out how she had been hired, and she wanted to know if this had anything to do with Gary. The girl took a look at Cindy, and all Cindy could do was shake her head. “I’m not sure either. The HR department accepted my application, and Miss Warhol didn’t reject me. I don’t know Miss Warhol. This is my first time meeting her.”

Confusion surfaced in the other girl’s eyes, but she didn’t say anything else. “I see,” she uttered with a nod. Everyone else was busy with work, and the girl eventually rolled her chair back to her own spot.

Cindy let out a sigh before placing the documents Serena had given her onto the table. She picked a topic from the list. Before she began to work on her design, she pulled her phone out to send Gary a text. She didn’t understand what was going on, so she wanted to ask Gary if he had somehow managed to resolve some issue on behalf of her.

However, Cindy hesitated once she finished drafting her message. She couldn’t decide whether to send the message or not as she wasn’t someone who liked using connections to get what she wanted. If she sent the text and Gary admitted to helping her, what would she do then? Would she buy him a meal to thank him, or would she just quit the job? Both options didn’t seem ideal to her.

She shut her eyes for a moment before deleting the message and exiting the application. It seemed like the best choice was not to know the answer. In the end, she allowed herself to calm down for a moment before she began to focus on the design that she had to prepare.

Time went by a little faster when she had a task to work on. She took quite a while to work on her design, and she was only halfway done by lunchtime. She watched as the other staff members began to leave the office. After leaning back in her chair and eyeing her design for a while, she crumpled the paper up and threw it away. She didn’t like what she just drew, perhaps because there were a lot of things going on in her mind.

Cindy wasn’t in a rush to leave. She pulled her phone out to text Ian, asking if he was busy. He wasn’t especially busy that day. Even though he had the booting ceremony of his filming, he had time to pick up a phone call or two. Ian gave Cindy a call after seeing her text. She could tell from the background noises that Ian was outside.
