The Returning EX (John and Sophia) novel Chapter 2019

Chapter 2019 Did You Contact Him?

Cindy nodded. "I got it. Don't worry, Miss Warhol." After that, Serena sent Cindy off without saying anything else. It was about time for lunch, so most of Cindy's colleagues were heading out when Cindy walked back to her seat. From the corner of her eye, she caught sight of Julia packing her items on her desk. All of her colleagues surrounded her to ask about her.

Anyone could tell that Julia was packing to leave for good. No one would believe that nothing was wrong, not when her eyes were swollen and red. However, Julia couldn't tell others about her act of theft, so she simply sealed her lips and remained silent.

Cindy didn't care much about all of them and left after she was done packing her bags. First, she hailed a cab home and took out all the ingredients from the refrigerator to prepare her meal. Then, she gave Ian a call to ask him what he was up to.

Ian didn't have much to do apart from laying in bed and scrolling through his phone. Cindy had previously texted to tell him that she would send him a meal during noontime, so he faked a weak voice as he answered her call. "I'm starving to death while waiting for your food to arrive."

She chuckled. "It'll be done soon. I only started preparing the meal after I got home, so it's taking a while longer." After a short pause, she changed the topic abruptly. "Did Valerie stop by to visit today?"

Ian didn't understand why she would mention Valerie out of nowhere, so he let out a laugh. "No. Don't worry. She's a busy person—why would she come to visit me?"

Cindy scoffed. "Did Yulia visit you, then?"

Yulia was practically out of Ian's life, and he wouldn't have remembered her if Cindy hadn't mentioned her name. "What are you thinking about? She's probably trying her best to run away from me," he uttered. Yulia had to deal with all sorts of things on her own—she wouldn't have the energy to think about him either.

Cindy felt a little more reassured after hearing his words. She was still in the midst of cooking, so she had to end the call with Ian. After that, Cindy swiftly prepared a healthy meal and stored it in a flask before packing her things and going downstairs to hail a cab to the hospital. She managed to skip the peak traffic hour, so the roads were rather empty. It wasn't too late when she arrived.

Ian's driver wasn't in the room. Ian said he had gone out for a meal. Cindy quickly brought her dishes over to place them on the table. "Come here. I did my research on these recipes yesterday, and I prepared ones that will help with recovery."

Ian got out of his bed and walked over to hug Cindy from the back. "Good girl. I'm so lucky to have you in my life."

She beamed and set the cutleries on the table before she replied to him. "Exactly, right? How lucky must you be to have met me." Once she was done setting the table, she patted his hand, and he let go of her and went to sit on the couch.

Before Ian started eating, he asked Cindy a question. "Did Gary contact you?"

She froze for a moment. "No," she replied. Gary's act of sending me home last night doesn't count, right? He also texted me later, but he didn't say much, so I guess it's not considered contact.

Ian felt more relaxed upon hearing her words. As they were eating, he told Cindy about his plan to be discharged from the hospital. He had gone for another check-up that morning, and the doctor told him that there was no issue and that he could just rest at home.

Hannah had come over to visit him in the morning. Although she didn't say it explicitly, Ian could tell that she wanted him to return to filming as soon as possible. Previously, the fans' group performance had helped to promote Ian's role in the film, so there had been an increasing number of people heading over to watch him on the filming set.

If he continued being absent for a while longer, Hannah was sure that rumors would eventually spread. She knew that Ian couldn't afford to be involved in another scandal at this point.

Cindy was rather worried about this. "You just got injured. You should rest for at least a day or two, right?"

He lowered his cutleries and reached for her hand to press it against the back of his head. "Look, it's not swollen anymore. I guess it's fine."
