Hendrix was in a bad mood, so he didn’t speak Noelle throughout the whole journey. 

But Noelle had gotten used to this kind of interaction with him. She didn’t take the initiative to talk to him, either, and the two of them remained in silence all the way to Monivera. 

After an 11–hour flight, it was still daytime when they landed. 

Hendrix had work, so as soon as they landed, someone came to pick him up, while another person took Noelle to the hotel. 

Back when they were married, Noelle had accompanied him on business trips before, usually when there were public events requiring their joint appearance. But those were always in the country, lasting just one or two days. 

During the day, she would stay in the hotel and wait for Hendrix, only to join him in the evening for the events. Now, it was just a change in time and location. 

Noelle had already slept on the plane, so she wasn’t feeling particularly tired at the moment. 

They were now on Mondivera’s famous tourist island, and from the hotel balcony, Noelle could see large stretches of beach and the ocean. 

The sea breeze blew in, lifting her spirits and easing the heaviness in her heart. 

Noelle didn’t bring a swimsuit, but after changing into a long–strap dress, she headed downstairs. 

On the beach, many people were sunbathing. After walking around a bit, she found a secluded spot and sat down. After hesitating for a moment, she dialed Dylan’s number. 

The phone rang for quite a while before he finally picked up 

“Noelle?” he said. 

“Are you… in Coppersville?” Noelle asked him, her voice soft. “How have you been lately?” 

“I’m doing well,” Dylan replied, his voice sounding normal–almost too normal. 

It was because of this lack of any apparent distress that Noelle grew even more worried. She knew Hendrix never said something unless he was absolutely certain. 

What he told her today might only be a small part of the truth. What about the rest? Perhaps they had already gathered concrete evidence, and what would be Dylan’s fate? 

Noelle couldn’t bring herself to imagine it. She was even more afraid that Dylan didn’t know anything at all, and by the time he realized, it would be too late for him to come up with any countermeasures. 

After hesitating for a long while, she finally spoke, “I heard.” 

“Noelle,” Dylan suddenly interrupted her. “We’ve already said all the things we needed to say. Though we agreed to stay friends after saying goodbye, I don’t think we can actually be friends anymore. 

“But no matter what, I still hope you’ll be happy. As for me. You don’t need to worry about me. After all, this is what I chose for myself.” 

Noelle understood what Dylan was implying. He was hinting that she should… say nothing. 

Was it because their conversation was being overheard now? Did Dylan already know he was being watched?
