Chapter 119
Calton and his friends were disappointed immediately. ‘Not the young maid, it’s no fun at all, they thought.
Walter was clearly a bit disappointed too, his tone indifferent. “It’s fine, go ahead.”
Berry hesitated on the other end. “Mr. Lopez, I, I feel like I haven’t seen you in ages. Can we meet?”
Calton hushed nosily while Walter frowned. “Is there something going on?”
“No, I don’t want to bother you, Mr. quicker, but lately, I haven’t been sleeping well, and my headaches are severe. I was hoping I’d remember something, but it’s still not clear.”
Opez. I just wanted to see you… You told me to rest and heal so I’d regain my memory
Hearing Berry’s words, Kyle frowned deeply. Walter thought for a moment. “I understand. Tomorrow, I’ll have Brian find a neurospecialist to give you a thorough check–up.”
Berry was completely stunned by Walter’s unexpected response. “Mr. Lopez, I…”
“I’m still in a meeting, you go ahead and rest.” With that, he hung up. On the other end, Berry was shocked, and so were Calton and his friends on the Veiled Vine’s side.
“I thought Walter was finally started to fall in love with someone and he’d show some tenderness, but… it’s the same old story!”
Shakira teased, “Old Walter only turns it on for Shakira.” Walter replied calmly, “Don’t test my patience.”
“Oh really, testing your patience? We’ve been talking about you for a while now and you’re not angry. If I said you liked that… what’s–her–name, wouldn’t you strangle me?”
Calton had just finished his teasing words when Walter shot him a glare that was ice–cold. Calton zipped his lips immediately. Kyle tried to smooth things over, “Alright, let’s continue the meeting. The sooner we finish, the sooner we ger to go home. You guys chat, I’ll head to the kitchen to check on something.”
Walter said, “Thanks.” Hearing this, Kyle gave Walter a pat on the shoulder and got up to leave.
He walked past a railing, instructed the server to prepare the dishes, then took out his phone to find Berry’s contact and dialed her number.
Berry was clearly surprised. “Mr. Kyle?”
“It’s me,” Kyle stated bluntly, his usually polite demeanor now carrying an undeniable tone of authority. “Walter is not someone you should even think about. Keep your distance.” Without waiting for Berry’s response, he hung up.
Holding the phone, Berry listened to the busy signal for a long time, lost in thought. She had already felt the sting of rejection from Walter, and now Kyle’s words hit her like a harsh slap to the face!
She thought, ‘Why is that? It’s one thing if Walter is cold to me, but now even Kyle is warning me off? If I can’t dream of being with Mr. Lopez, then who can? Shakira? I’m part of the White family too, and being with Mr. Lopez would only bring us benefits. Yet, as the head of the family, Kyle tells me to stay away from Walter? How ridiculous and ironic!‘
Berry felt deeply humiliated! Tears streamed down her face as she clenched her fists, filled with jealousy and resentment. She thought, “They look down on me and refuse to let me have what I wants, but I will get it anyway!”
Shakira finished up at the Smith residence and was waiting for Walter to come back. By the time he finally arrived, it was almost eleven o’clock, and she was supposed to give him acupuncture tonight.

Hearing the car pull up, Shakira quickly ran downstairs in her pajamas and slippers. Seeing Walter get out of the car, she couldn’t help but complain, “Why are you so late getting back?”
Walter raised an eyebrow, a light tone of amusement in his voice. “Have you been waiting for me all this time?”
Shakira flashed a bright smile. “Did you forget about tonight’s acupuncture session?” Without any word on Matthew’s schedule, Shakira couldn’t afford to slack off and diligently kept up with her acupuncture and massage routine.
She took a few steps closer and smelled the alcohol on him, immediately feeling displeased. “You were drinking? How can we do acupuncture if you’ve been drinking?”
Listening to her insisting on acupuncture, eager not to waste any chances or time to get this over with, Walter frowned and became stern. “If we can’t do it, then let’s not.” With that, he walked past Shakira into the house.
“Hey, you…” Shakira was confused. “Seriously, getting angry over nothing again.”
Brian stepped up and handed over a thermal bag. “Ms. Nelson,” Shakira accepted it, feeling its weight. “What’s this?”
“Mr. Lopez went to Veiled Vine tonight and brought back their new dishes for you, Ms. Nelson.” Brian paused, even though he felt like he might be overstepping, he wanted to defend his boss. “Mr. Lopez didn’t drink; it was Mr.Jennings and Mr. Clifton who had a few drinks.”
Shakira was moved. She thought, ‘He went to discuss business but still thought of bringing me some food.‘ Holding the warm late–night takeaway close, her heart felt a little full.
Suddenly, she hurried inside holding the takeout and dashed up the stairs. “Walter!”
Walter had already taken fresh clothes into the bathroom, halfway out of his shirt when Shakira barged in without hesitation. Now used to seeing a man’s body, Shakira confidently walked up to him and began pushing his wheelchair out.
Walter frowned darkly. “Shakira, are you looking for trouble?” Shakira pushed him in front of the footstool, facing her directly.
Her eyes were bright and clear, like the full moon outside the window. They curved slightly, softening her tone with a touch of coaxing. “You’re quite something, not drinking at all–why don’t you just say so?”
Walter said coldly, “You don’t need to do this.” He brushed off her hand and made to leave.
Shakira quickly hugged his foot. “Hey, hold on, didn’t you bring me some snacks for the night? I’ll give you an injection, and then we can eat together.”
“Who said I brought it for you?” Walter sneered. “That’s for feeding the fish in the pool tomorrow.”
Shakira’s eyes formed into mischievous crescents, a wicked smile hiding beneath. “Oh sure, feed the crocodile with snacks, salt it to death!”
