Hearing the noise, Shakira looked over to see Walter standing on the second–floor railing, gazing down at her with a cool and handsome expression.

Shakira pouted, not giving Walter any face. “I don’t believe you. If you didn’t want to hear my explanation, you wouldn’t have waited here for me.” Walter was silent. 

Brian, standing nearby, couldn’t help but cough and quietly walked away. 

Shakira squatted down slightly, her gaze was clear, and her tone was calmer and more composed than ever. “You’ve looked into everything about my past, how I was at the Smith residence and the Nelson residence; you know it best. I’ve told you before, I don’t need anyone to interfere in these matters; I’ll handle them myself.” 

Walter gazed at her with a deep stare. “Buying out Lago’s company, is that your revenge?” 

Shakira did not hide anything; she was completely open. “I want him to lose everything.” Her eyes shone with firm determination. 

Walter was silent for a moment. Ever since the first day Shakira appeared before him, he knew she was different from ordinary women. 

Her face revealed many emotions, but he always felt she was hiding more inside. There were many secrets about her that he couldn’t uncover. 

Walter never cared about this before. As long as she wasn’t a threat to him, it didn’t matter. She was just a way to kill time; there was no need to invest any effort in her. But now, his thoughts seemed to be shifting. 

He wanted to know her likes, her dislikes, and more about who she really was. Like right now, she had made a massive move without his knowledge, and he learned about it only through others. 

Realizing he himself had such feelings about it was confusing for Walter. “What’s happening to me?” But at the same time, he was sure he didn’t want to control these feelings. So, as Shakira mentioned, he was just waiting here now. 

Walter lowered his eyes, asking without any emotion, “Where did the money come from?” 

“Uh,” Shakira’s eyes darted around. “Well, Walter, you agree that I’m pretty good at medicine. I’ve handled quite a few difficult cases before…” She was making it up. Walter was her first real patient, and she never willingly helped anyone with medicine. But she couldn’t be completely honest with Walter. 

Walter scoffed, “So you’re keeping a secret stash behind my back! 

Shakira froze, finally realizing why Walter was picking a fight. ‘Good grief, typical capitalist. It’s all about the money!‘ 

She immediately wailed, “I’m innocent, Walter! It’s not that I don’t want to pay back the money, but some things are more pressing. I can’t just spend all my hard–earned savings on cakes and clothes can I? Don’t worry, I’ll find time to work and pay you back soon enough!” 

Walter realized Shakira misunderstood him, and his face darkened. “When did I ever ask you to pay me back?” 

“But you weren’t…” 

“Enough, shut your mouth. I don’t want to hear it.”
