The True Heiress's Return novel Chapter 199

Chapter 199
Shakira widened her eyes but eventually backed down under Walter’s silent and cold gaze. She shuffled over and obediently settled into Walter’s outstretched arm, comfortably nestled in his embrace.
Whether it was just in her head or not, her earlobe felt warm from his pinch, and it seemed like the heat had spread to her cheeks, making them blush slightly.
Brian, who was driving, thoughtfully raised the partition between the front and back seats.
The car had always had this feature, but it had never been used over the years. Now that Walter was dating Shakira, it seemed like the partition would stay up from now on.
Shakira watched wide-eyed as the partition came up, her eyes wide like saucers. “What’s Brian up to?” It felt like they were sneaking around doing something mischievous in the back seat!
Walter raised an eyebrow and praised. “Hmm, it’s the end of the year. I should give Brian a raise.”
Shakira leaned against Walter’s chest, looking up from below. She was surprised that even from this angle, Walter’s face was still so handsome and captivating.
She grumbled, “So you came over without saying anything just to get me to intern at the Lopez Group?” Waker replied, “You not allowed me to do that?”
He admitted it rather quickly, which caught Shakira a bit by surprise. Shakira scratched her face and said, “I didn’t mean that. It’s just that if it’s all random, then wherever I’m picked to go, I’ll go. No need to push it.”
Walter, done with his grand task of ear lobe squeezing and now bored, let his thumb wander absently along Shakira’s temple. As he touched her soft hair, he unexpectedly felt a pleasant mood.
“So even if I came, you still got the Lopez Group by drawing lots, so my coming or not doesn’t make a difference,” said Walter. Shakira felt a bit dizzy from Walter’s roundabout logic. She couldn’t shake the feeling that he was seriously talking
nonsense.
“Besides…” Walter lowered his gaze. His eyes intently locked onto Shakira’s. “Isn’t this the gift you wanted?”
Shakira instantly lost her cool, pushing Walter away and sitting up straight. “When did I ever ask you for this gift?”
Walter narrowed his eyes, took out his phone, and opened their morning chat log. He pointed at Shakira’s read, “That’s all?”

Shakira was on the verge of breaking down, feeling like crying but unable to shed any tears. “So what you meant by ‘got it?” Seeing Shakira’s unhappy with the gift, Walter furrowed his brows. “Then what do you want?”
Shakira gestured animatedly and said, “See, you just said you were going to give Brian a raise. You know how to praise him, so what about me, huh? What about me?” She made her point loud and clear.
Walter understood when he saw Shakira’s eager and sparkling eyes. However, at the same time, he looked sullen and gritted his teeth in frustration. “All you care about is money?”
Shakira argued her point. “Money is so appealing! Besides, I still owe you so much money. Who knows if I’ll ever pay it all back in this lifetime?”
Walter hummed with unclear meaning. “Well, then, take your time to pay it back this lifetime. I’m not in a hurry.” Shakira was rendered speechless.
Walter thought for a moment and then said, “If you want to pay it back faster, that’s possible too.” Shakira’s eyes

asked, “What do you mean? Does that mean the intern salary is quite good?”

Walter lightly pinched Shakira’s check, slightly annoyed. “Don’t you know interns aren’t paid?” Shakira was surprised and said, “What? No pay?” It felt like the sky was falling for Shakira.
Walter was amused by Shakira’s puffed-up face and all his previous annoyance disappeared.
“The Lopez Group has never had an internship training prograth with any university before.

“This is the first time. You should know that even for interns, the Lopez Group will go all out to develop your work skills and assign you related projects,” said Walter.
He explained patiently, “There’s no salary for internships, but if you participate in project collaborations and achieve results, you can earn bonuses accordingly.”
He paused for a moment and gave a friendly reminder. “The internship lasts for three months. The Lopez Group’s projects usually take about two months to prepare. If you’re quick, a project can be finalized in a month.
“The collaboration starts at least in the thousands of dollars, and project team members receive bonuses ranging from 0.5% to 3% based on their contributions to the team.”
Shakira’s eyes, which had dimmed, suddenly regained their sparkle. “So, at the very least, we can get twenty thousand dollars per project, right?”
If she put in a bit more effort and made more money, it shouldn’t be a problem. Shakira was confident in her abilities.
She looked like a little squirrel under a tree full of fruits, her eyes darting around mischievously as she wondered where to start collecting, plotting mischievously. Her eyes twinkled with amusement.
Walter leaned in closer, his deep and magnetic voice almost hypnotic as he spoke slowly. “There’s another way to earn more bonuses. Interested?”
Shakira nodded eagerly without hesitation, her eyes sparkling. “What way?”
Walter’s handsome face slowly broke into a smile, full of temptation. “Stay by my side and become my special assistant. For every project I handle, you’ll receive matching bonuses.”
He thoughtfully added a hint. “Every week, I handle at least ten projects from all the departments.”
Each project earned twenty thousand dollars. Ten projects a week. Four weeks a month. There was a three-month internship!!!
Shakira gulped hard as if she saw Walter sitting in the office, continuously spitting out coins… It was too tempting! Who could resist this?!
Shakira blinked and said, “I…”
Before she could finish, Walter took a small step back, increasing the distance between them. The previously thick and intense atmosphere seemed to cool down instantly with his move.
Shakira was puzzled and heard Walter say in a clear and calm voice. “However, for an intern to transfer to the CEO’s office is not that simple.”

Shakira sensed a bit of a cat-and-mouse game. She feigned innocence and asked, “Oh? So, how can someone get into the CEO’s office? Is there a test or review?”
Walter shook his head slowly and said, “I must personally approve it.”
“Oh…” said Shakira.

She moved a little closer, tilting her head with a sincere expression, and asked, “So what would it take, Mr. Lopez, for you to agree?”
This time, she took the initiative. Walter could feel her breath on his Adam’s apple. It was barely noticeable, yet it sent a tingling sensation through him as if it was reaching deep inside.
His breathing instinctively tightened, trying to maintain his composure, yet he couldn’t help but lower his head, leaning towards her.
“I’m not into bribery, but…” His lips casually brushed the corner of Shakira’s eye, leaning in close to her ear. His voice was low and gentle. “Do you rem
