Chapter 95
That one sentence stirred up a storm.
Cody and Rebecca’s expressions changed instantly, surprise, confusion, panic, disappointment, and anger-almost in an instant, passing through several complex emotions. Finally, Cody struggled to suppress his restless agitation and sternly scolded Mitchell, “Mitchell, what’s gotten into you lately, repeatedly helping an outsider!” The emphasis on ‘outsider’ was heavy.
“No, Dad, even if we cut ties, Shakira still has the blood of the Nelson family; she is your daughter, our sister.”
“Nonsense!” Cody angrily pointed his finger at have one sister in this lifetime? You drove her awa
tchell’s nose, “You used to be very clear about this, didn’t you say you only and now you want her back? Mitchell, I think you’re losing your mind!”
Listening to this scolding, Mitchell lowered his head in shame. “Yes, at that time, I didn’t know what her life was like; Dad, she hasn’t been treated well in the Smith family; she was like a servant, lowered her status-she wasn’t as terrible as they said…”
“Shut up! No matter how she was in the Smith family, it was caused by us? When she was in the Nelson family, she was always restless, causing chaos for the entire household!” Rebecca looked at her husband, feeling somewhat agitated, and stepped forward to comfort him. Afterward, she cam
over to rest her hand on her son’s shoulder, gently advising, “Mitchell,
I know you have a kind heart; you brothers are all good-hearted, but you don’t understand the malice of the world…”
Mitchell was shocked beyond belief and couldn’t believe his mother would say such a thing about her own daughter. “Mom, do you suspect that Shakira has ulterior motives in using me?” For the first time, he felt that his parents were utterly ridiculous. He couldn’t help but feel a sense of sorrow for Shakira. ‘When I faced the accusations of being ‘abandoned by my family’ at the Nelson family, didn’t I feel the same sense of frustration and helplessness?”
Finn, who had been silent, frowned at his parents’ reaction. ‘Am I overthinking this? Why do my parents hold such malicious bias against Shakira?’ Finn had been busy with company matters and rarely involved himself in family affairs. Now, after watching a few exchanges, he increasingly felt that there was something they didn’t know.
Rebecca’s poised and elegant demeanor briefly showed an unusual expression. “Mom isn’t doubting her; she wants to protect you and Yvette. Otherwise, tell me, why would she insist on cutting ties with the whole family and now confuse you into feeling pity for her?”
Mitchell clenched his fists tightly. “It has nothing to do with her. She’s always been cold to me and doesn’t want to see me at all. It’s my own decision to follow her and observe certain things.” He lowered his voice, briefly mentioning the incident where Lago Jessie attempted to sell Shakira to Donavan.
After hearing this, the couple’s expressions darkened further. “How outrageous!” Cody’s face turned black with anger. “Lago has brought this upon himself, and now he wants to sell Shakira for money?” Even if Cody and Rebecca disliked Shakira and regarded her as a thorn in their side, they wouldn’t allow anyone else to touch that thorn.
“It’s precisely because Lago has gone too far that I know if we let her be, more people will come to harm her in the future. If she holds the identity of a Nelson family child, who would dare lay their hands on her?” Cody and Rebecca fell silent, and Finn spoke up. “Dad, no matter what, the Smith family did wrong in this matter. Shakira was indeed nearly harmed; if Mitchell hadn’t been there, the consequences would have been unimaginable.”
“Yes, Finn is right. She even helped you during the Southville development; her heart isn’t as bad as we think…” Mitchell gritted his teeth. “The worst are those two from the Smith family! They didn’t raise Shakira properly and now want to use herto settle their debts. It’s truly despicable!”
Finn glanced at his parents and suggested, “We don’t need to rush the recognition; instead, why don’t we invite her over for dinner? Under my name, as a form of gratitude.”
Mitchell’s eyes lit up. “Finn!”
Cody and Rebecca exchanged glances. “Alright, eldest son, you take care of it.”

Mitchell pressed further, “Fiun, we can’t let Lap
and Jessie think they can target the Nelson family without consequences…”
“Ah-” Before Mitchell could finish, screams from downstairs interrupted. The group rushed out of the study and found Yvette lying at the bottom of the staircase, surrounded by shards of glass and blood seeping out.
“Yvette!” Rebecca rushed to her side. “Yvette, what happened?” Cody shouted at the people nearby, “Call an ambulance now!”

Yvette was already in tears, crying uncontrollably. “Mom, Dad, I don’t deserve to be your daughter! The Smith family-they did something so cruel to my sister! Lago, that beast, got severely beaten up by the debt collectors and is in the hospital, and he’s forcing me to pay for him. If I don’t, he’ll jump off a building and declare to the world that I’m his daughter, letting the collectors come after me…” Overwhelmed with emotion, Yvette clutched her chest and began to retch. “What evil have I done in my past life to deserve such a beast of a father in this one?”
“What! Lago that filthy dog, how dare he!” Cody turned green with rage. Lago’s actions were an open challenge to the Nelson family, trampling their dignity underfoot!
Yvette continued to cry out, becoming increasingly disoriented. In the end, her emotions overwhelmed her, and she fainted. The Nelson family was thrown into chaos, rushing her to the hospital. The parents followed, while Finn went to deal with Lago. Mitchell was left alone in the house. He looked up at the ornate spiral staircase and, in a daze, a certain thought gradually became clearer in his mind.
When Shakira returned to her room, her little bedroom had been completely restored to its previous state in Walter’s master bedroom. She felt a bit dazed, as if everything before her was a dream. Is this really a dream?’ She couldn’t help but pinch her arm.
“Is there really such a method to verify reality from dreams? Shakira, how foolish can you be?” Walter appeared behind her unexpectedly, startling her.
Shakira turned around, blinking. She didn’t know how her courage had grown so bold as she reached out to pinch Walter’s firm arm muscle again.
Walter let out a hiss. “Shakira!”
“I used a clever method; the young master should praise me!”
He was speechless. He just wanted to strangle her!
