After leaving the ward, Cecilia didn’t go downstairs to the underground parking. Instead, she went to see Fiona’s 

attending doctor to learn about her health condition in detail. 

The doctor initially didn’t want to tell Cecilia because it involved the patient’s privacy. 

However, Cecilia contacted Yvette and asked for the latter’s permission. 

Therefore, the doctor handed the detailed medical record of Fiona to Cecilia and briefly explained Fiona’s condition. 

___”The gunshot wounds in the shoulder and thigh are not severe injuries and will recover with about half a month of rest, albeit they may leave scars. The tears in her genitals, however, are serious and even damaged her uterus. In the future… she might have difficulties getting pregnant.” 

When Cecilia heard this, her hand that was holding the report stilled briefly before she resumed reading. 

Once she was done, she said to the doctor, “I will invite a specialist over later to help Fiona recuperate. I hope you can cooperate actively.”

Cecilia didn’t continue the conversation and got up to leave. She took the elevator downstairs, but rather than going straight to the underground parking, she headed to the lobby on the first floor.

Evan Shaw was dressed in casual clothes and had a neat, youthful–looking buzz cut. His originally stony, handsome face broke into a smile at the sight of her. 

He raised his hand and stroked Cecilia’s head affectionately. 

“Look at how much you’ve changed after two years.” 

What changed was not Cecilia’s appearance but the aura she exuded. 

Her aloofness and apathy had been replaced by vitality, bringing even the joy she exhibited to life. 

Cecilia scrutinized Evan and remarked, “You, on the other “hand, haven’t changed much aside from the addition of those 

fine lines on the corners of your eyes.” 

Although the two often kept in touch, they hadn’t seen each other in ages. 

In the past three years that Cecilia stayed in the Yancey residence, she went back to Acocester a lot fewer than before and always came and went in a hurry when she did. 

Similarly, Evan only made time to return once and didn’t manage to meet Cecilia. 

Hearing Cecilia’s words, he immediately raised a hand and pressed the corner of his eye. “Sure enough, one can’t be too fatigued, or they’ll age fast.”

“Come with us. I have something to say to you two.” 

“Shall we go to Emerald Mansion?” proposed Christopher. Cecilia explained, “Emerald Mansion is Chris‘ estate. It has excellent security factors and privacy. You can stay there, Evan.” 

Though the police headquarters had provided 

accommodations for Evan, he wanted to see the environment Cecilia lived in, so he agreed. 

“Okay, Emerald Mansion it is.” 

After sending his men away, Evan got into Christopher’s car and sat in the backseat. 

Christopher then went to the front passenger seat to deliberately give Cecilia and Evan the space to catch up. 

After the car was started, he even asked the driver to raise the partition. 

Seeing this, Evan smirked. 

“He’s pretty considerate.” Then, the way he stared at Cecilia abruptly turned stern. “You’re truly unruly without anyone controlling you. How dare you use yourself as bait? Do you have any idea how worried Grandma is?” 

He had long reprimanded Cecilia about this, but that was through the phone. Now that they met in person, he naturally had to express his disapproval again.

However, this was Evan. She had the best relationship with him, and the latter doted on her most.

Evan knocked Cecilia’s head in annoyance. 

“I’m being serious, you brat. Do not crack jokes, or I’ll make Aiden talk to you.” 

Instead of feeling threatened, Cecilia stuck out her tongue cheekily. 

“Do you really dare to call Aiden?” 

“For your sake, I dare!” 

Cecilia didn’t find anything wrong about this line, for she and Evan were childhood sweethearts and also close friends. 

Although the partition could isolate sound, the two’s voices weren’t soft and could be vaguely heard from the front seats of the vehicle. 

Christopher’s expression changed subtly when he heard Evan’s words, and his hand on his lap subconsciously curled as he twiddled his fingertips. 

Still, the change of his mood was only for a brief moment; he soon returned to normal. 

That was because he trusted Cecilia. 

On the way back to Emerald Mansion, the duo in the backseat chatted about everything under the sun. 

Evan was the one asking most of the questions, while Cecilia answered. 

Roughly half an hour later, the car pulled over at the entrance of the main building of Emerald Mansion.
