Cecilia, who had been staring at Christopher, immediately noticed that he was responding to her words. 

She smiled happily and continued her efforts. 

“Chris, Charlie has ordered the creation of the toxin in your body. He’ll certainly use you to threaten me. At that time, shall I fall into his trap or avoid it? What do you think?” 

She answered herself immediately. 

“I will definitely jump into the trap knowing that I love you, and I won’t let anything happen to you.” 

Christopher’s eyelids twitched as if he were about to open his eyes. 

But Cecilia couldn’t get him to open his eyes, even after a long wait. 

She pinched Christopher’s cheek. “Can’t you open your eyes and look at me? I’m worried about you.” 

There was no miraculous happening. Christopher’s eyes remained closed. 

However, Cecilia knew he could hear her. 

Twenty minutes later, she removed the silver needles from Christopher’s body. 

His sallow complexion improved significantly. 

It didn’t take long for the nurse to bring a portable bathtub to the ward. She also brought the prepared concentrated medicinal bath. 

“Ms. Yancey. Do you need my help?” 

As she spoke, she placed the waterproof bandages on the bedside table. Cecilia shook her head. “Please leave after you draw the curtain over the glass wall.” 

“Sure, Ms. Yancey.” 

After the curtains were drawn, the sterile ward became a small room of its own. 

Cecilia poured the giant bucket of medicinal bath liquid into the portable bathtub and went to the attached bathroom for warm water.

Christopher, applied waterproof bandages to his wounds that might get wet, and laid him in the portable bathtub. 

The water level reached his chest just right, and the bullet wound on his shoulder didn’t come in contact with the liquid. 

Perhaps due to the slightly higher temperature of the water, Christopher soon began to sweat profusely and his lips turned pale. 

The medicinal bath was used to detoxify. 

The medicine would take effect by seeping through his skin, entering his bloodstream, and passing through his liver. She would then expel the toxins by bloodletting. 

That wouldn’t remove the toxin completely, but it would stop the toxin’s spread and reduce the damage to his liver. 

It would buy them more time to develop an antidote. 

When the medicinal bath had cooled, Cecilia made an incision on Christopher’s finger. 

Dark red blood trickled down and splashed on the shiny white floor, staining the floor’s surface red. 

When the blood color returned to normal, she immediately lifted Christopher out of the portable bathtub. She toweled off his body, laid him on the hospital bed, and bandaged the wound on his finger. 

She helped him put on a hospital gown and reconnected him to the ECG monitor after bandaging his wounds. 

Cecilia felt all her hard work paid off when she saw the improved statistics on the device’s screen. 

She drew the curtains and asked the nurse to remove the portable bathtub. Next she went to the laboratory. 

Since Elaine had ordered the hospital to cure Christopher at all costs, the laboratory now worked in three rotating shifts, covering 24 hours a day, to develop an antidote as soon as possible. 

When Cecilia arrived at the laboratory, a handful of laboratory 

technicians were busy working. 

They divided their time between observing the effects on the Petri dishes and experimenting with reagents. 

When they saw Cecilia enter, they greeted her and then continued working.

Cecilia was exhausted after a busy day. She returned to the sterile ward to rest with Christopher after two hours of experiments.

Still groggy from her sleep, she raised and waved her hand impatiently, and hit something. 

Cecilia remembered she was in Christopher’s hospital bed and feared she had accidentally touched his wound. So she jolted awake immediately. 

She turned her head in his direction, and her eyes met his eyes, which were now open. 

She couldn’t react for a moment. She thought she was dreaming and blinked in confusion. 

But the scene she saw didn’t disappear. 

A smile crept across Christopher’s face when he saw how adorable the confused Cecilia was. 

“I’m awake, Ceci.” 

The voice that was so familiar to her was hoarse, and it brought Cecilia back to her senses immediately. 

Her beautiful face expressed joyous surprise. “Chris! When did you wake up?” she asked. 

Christopher raised his hand to tidy up Cecilia’s disheveled hair from sleep. He replied softly, “I just woke up a while ago. I wanted to get closer to you, but my breathing has disturbed you.”

She replied, “My face can’t cure illnesses, so if you feel uncomfortable, just let me know. Your condition is quite serious, so don’t hold it in.” 

“Okay, I’ll listen to you. You must be worried since I went into a coma.” Although Christopher was in a coma, he was occasionally conscious. He knew he had gone under surgery in the operating room twice and had heard Cecilia’s many words to him. 

He couldn’t remember the details of most of them.
