Chapter 212 

Charlie was in the burn unit of the military hospital right now. 

He heard Christopher was admitted to the emergency room last night, so he called Cecilia. 

Cecilia walked to a quiet place to take the call. 

She knew that Charlie’s conversation was being monitored. She asked coldly, “Anything?” 

“Of course. If not, why would I call you?” 

“Then just tell me what’s wrong. Don’t waste my time.” 

Charlie teased, “Are you so irritable because of Christopher?”

“It’s none of your business!” She ended the call after saying that. Soon, Charlie called again. 

She just silenced her phone and ignored his calls. 

Charlie heard the recording of the robotic woman’s voice saying, “The 

person you are calling is unavailable.” He chuckled. 

“Her temper is just as bad as last time,” he said to John, who was monitoring him. 

Then, he sent a message to Cecilia. 

[For Christopher’s sake, you should cooperate with me. My pharmacologist is Jeffrey.] 

Jeffrey Farsons was formerly the head of the Pharmaceutical Research Center, overseeing the development of synthetic drugs. 

He applied for a number of patented drugs, benefiting everyone. 

Cecilia not only knew Jeffrey but had also met him once. 

Jeffrey had been a professional speaker at the medical conference that Emma had sent her to gain some knowledge. 

It was undeniable that Jeffrey was talented, but she disagreed with some of his perceptions, especially on the matter of testing the drugs on patients.

Cecilia had already raised her doubts back then. 

“Do the patients know the worst consequence of the test? Everyone’s body structure is different. How do you control the risks? The majority of people are regarded as humans, so why isn’t the small group that is sacrificed not regarded as humans? Isn’t it a deprivation of human rights to simply test drugs on people?” 

Patients who were at dead ends were irrational and would not hesitate to seize any chance of recovery. 

However, it never crossed their minds that the process of testing drugs would probably crush them harder than the pain they had suffered. 

It would be too late to go back on their own words then. 

Once they signed the contract, their lives were not theirs anymore. 

In fact, many people could think of these questions raised by Cecilia, but no one would say it for Jeffrey’s sake. 

Jeffrey smiled gently. 

“Young lady, what you said is very reasonable. I will think about it carefully. It’s brave of you to dare speak out. I’ll remember you.” 

This may seem to be complimenting Cecilia, but the truth was that it was a warning. 

Nevertheless, Cecilia had never planned to stay in the medical field, so she was not bothered by his comment. 

Unexpectedly, five years later, she and Jeffrey crossed paths again. 

If he knew that she needed his help, he would show an obnoxious look. 

Thinking of this, Cecilia called Charlie back. 

Christopher’s life was more important than anything else. If Jeffrey could help develop an antidote for the poison, it wouldn’t hurt for her to be ridiculed. 

Charlie saw Cecilia’s call. He didn’t make things difficult for her and answered it immediately. 

“You’ve finally figured it out? Are you willing to cooperate with me to expand the pharmaceutical company?”

Cecilia didn’t answer but asked, “How did you manage to hire Jeffrey to work for your company?” 

Although Jeffrey harbored some bad intentions, there was no doubt about his professional ability. 

If he continued staying at the Pharmaceutical Research Center, he would most likely become the person with the highest position. 

Charlie told Cecilia the truth without hiding anything, “Jeffrey made a mistake in the drug test. The Pharmaceutical Research Center suspended him, and he was stabbed by the patient’s family. I saved him and gave him 40% of my company shares.” 

The life–saving grace plus the temptation of money were fatal temptations for Jeffrey, who was at a low point. 

Thus, he became a shareholder and pharmacologist of Charlie’s pharmaceutical company. 

Of course, that was the reason given to outsiders. 

In fact, Jeffrey was a member of Wolf Killer. He had been using the Pharmaceutical Research Center for illegal research. 

Since he couldn’t hide his real intention anymore, he voluntarily resigned. 

The poison that Christopher got was actually created by Jeffrey. 

Cecilia obviously didn’t know the real reason, so she temporarily believed Charlie. 

She would find out more to see if Charlie’s words were true or not. 

“If I agree to cooperate, can Jeffrey develop an antidote immediately?” she asked. 

Charlie agreed straightaway, “Of course.” 

As soon as he finished speaking, he took a turn. “However, I’m not sure if Jeffrey can really create an antidote. I don’t dare to guarantee that. I can only say that you have another chance to save Christopher.” 

Cecilia never thought of pinning all her hopes on Jeffrey. 

“I understand. Are you free at noon? Let’s talk about the details of our cooperation.” 

She didn’t meet Charlie to discuss their cooperation. She wanted to ask him for information on Wolf Killer. 

While she was at it, she planned to ask if he had an antidote with him or

Yesterday, at the Shaw residence, she had asked Charlie once, but he did not answer her. 

If he did not reply, she assumed that he had it secretly. 

Charlie took the initiative to contact Cecilia to meet her and deliver a message. 

He smiled. “Of course I’m free. I’m doing facial treatment in the hospital now and will finish in two hours.” 

“Contact me when you’re done.” 

Then, Cecilia hung up. 

Charlie put the phone in his pocket and walked to the attending doctor. “Professor Fox, I’m going to go to the restroom. I’ll be back soon.” 

“Okay. I’ll get ready for the facial treatment first.” 

Charlie went to the restroom and closed the door. He sat on the toilet lid and contacted John. 

“Tell the shareholders that I have succeeded in luring Cecilia into the plan. I will meet her frequently and then find a chance to kidnap her.” 

John replied, “Please don’t disappoint the organization, sir.”
