Chapter 229
Cecilia indeed suspected that Jeffrey was a shareholder.
After all, his achievements were too remarkable, and he lived an incredibly open and free life.
Controlling a person like him would prove challenging for “Wolf Killer” unless he held the highest position in the hierarchy himself.
“Whether Jeffrey is a shareholder or not, he’s still a core member of ‘Wolf Killer.‘ We can’t let such a person go!” she said.
Christopher nodded in agreement. “We must apprehend him, but we need a good excuse. If not, Charlie will be put in a difficult position.” “That’s for sure. Charlie is the key to our investigation of their inside operations; nothing can go wrong.” Cecilia stood up. “I’ll go arrange the discharge for you and Evan.”
If Jeffrey were a “shareholder,” then his purpose for entering Acocester’s military hospital would be anything but simple.
He used to be a top pharmacologist at the Pharmaceutical Research Center, so his knowledge of poisoning was undoubtedly top–notch. It would be a piece of cake if he really wanted to do something to someone.
Half an hour later, a major incident occurred in the military hospital.
Potassium cyanide had been injected into a patient’s medicine bottle, causing his death.
The entire hospital was placed under lockdown, and an investigation into the matter was initiated.
When Jeffrey heard about it, he felt that the incident seemed too deliberately coincidental.
Given the high level of strictness at military hospitals, such a medical accident was utterly rare.
Nevertheless, it was none of his business, so he didn’t pay much
attention.
It wasn’t until he overheard the discussions in the laboratory about Christopher that he became intrigued.
“Mr. Forte’s health is so poor. Can he even survive if he’s discharged against medical advice?”

“Of course. There’s a well–equipped treatment room at the Shaw residence that’s just as good as a sterile ward
“I’ve heard about that. They set up the treatment room at home when Mrs. Elaine Shaw was seriously ill back then.”
“Even if the home environment is great, they can’t provide emergency treatment. Why insist on a discharge?”
“I guess they’re worried about being poisoned…”
Jeffrey overheard those people’s conversation but didn’t believe a single word.
He even went as far as suspecting that the potassium cyanide poisoning might have been faked, too.
“Military hospitals will never make such a low–level mistake!” he mused. With this in mind, he found an excuse to leave the laboratory and headed to the ward where the incident occurred.
Its location was easy to find because the patient’s family members were currently causing a commotion.
As Jeffrey pretended to walk by, he clearly saw the poisoned patient with a contorted expression while his face and lips had turned bluish–purple.
“It’s indeed potassium cyanide poisoning, and he has already succumbed to it!” exclaimed Jeffrey inwardly.
Previously, he suspected that Cecilia might have orchestrated this as a precaution against him so that she could divert attention and facilitate Christopher’s relocation.
Now, however, he felt like he had overthought it.
Military hospitals that prided themselves on their moral and ethical values would never resort to taking lives for a scheme.
“Looks like Charlie hasn’t betrayed me or the organization,” he pondered.
At the thought of that, Jeffrey returned to the laboratory and pretended to work on developing the antidote.
Meanwhile, Cecilia was sitting in an ambulance on her way back to the Shaw residence.
On two narrow beds beside her lay both Christopher and Evan.
Christopher had already taken the antidote, and his complexion had improved significantly compared to before.

However, his body remained rather weak, and the antidote also had some mild side effects, making him dizzy and nauseous.
She let him rest his head on her thighs and massaged his temple with moderate strength single–handedly to ease his discomfort.
In the meantime, her free hand held up her phone as she checked the hospital’s surveillance footage.
As for Evan, he had been moved several times today, causing his body to feel like it was falling apart. Despite simply lying down, he was in excruciating pain from head to toe.
Gritting his teeth to bear the pain, he asked in a frail voice, “Ceci, how is it? Did the plan succeed?”
Cecilia watched the surveillance footage of Jeffrey going to the ward as a smile crept onto her face. “Yeah. We’ve dispelled Jeffrey’s doubts, so Charlie is safe for now.”
The patient who died from potassium cyanide poisoning didn’t succumb due to a hospital error; it was a result of ineffective emergency treatment after being poisoned.
The commotion by the patient’s family members was merely an act. The compensation provided by the hospital was supplied by Cecilia for their acting roles, as well as their reward for altering the medical records. Putting her phone aside, she stated, “Once Aiden returns, we can discuss the plan where Charlie captures and then transfers me to ‘Wolf Killer‘ headquarters.”
The longer time passed, the higher the odds of flaws in the plan, so they couldn’t afford any further delays.
With his eyes closed, Evan said, “Ceci, this matter can’t be rushed. We need to discuss it carefully and make a detailed plan. Let’s first wait for Aiden to return and ask about the progress of his investigation in Yowhayton.”
The main issue was that they hadn’t found a suitable stand–in yet. Having Cecilia go in person was out of the question for him.
Cecilia bobbed her head. “We’ll talk about it the day after tomorrow, then.”
Although Aiden was returning tomorrow, it happened to be the death anniversary of their parents, so the discussion had to be postponed by a day.

Not long after, the ambulance arrived at the entrance of the Shaw residence.
Elaine had been waiting at the door for a while.
When Evan was lifted out of the vehicle, his vision blacked out, and he nearly fainted.
As he had suffered internal injuries, all the commotion and movement took a toll on his body, which was becoming increasingly difficult to endure.
Seeing his extremely pale complexion, Elaine anxiously asked the accompanying doctor, “Evan can rest at home for his recovery, right? Will he be okay?”
“Yes, just make sure to administer his IV fluids on schedule.” After the doctor finished speaking, he handed the bag of medication to Bruce. “I’ve packed them all and labeled them in order of sequence and time for the IV. Make sure not to mix them up.”
Bruce took the bag and replied, “Thank you, Doctor. I’ll keep that in mind.”
The layout of the Shaw residence was not complicated, and Evan was soon brought to the treatment room where Elaine had previously stayed. It was equipped with a single hospital bed and an accompanying bed, perfect for both Evan and Christopher to use.
Lying on the soft bed, Evan finally felt like he was coming back to life. “There’s nothing like the comfort of home!”
Cecilia teased upon hearing his comment, “Isn’t the most comfortable place your dorm in the military?”
“Of course, home is the most comfortable because it gives a sense of belonging.”
Taking advantage of the moment, Elaine chimed in, “Since it’s like this, why don’t you get married?”
Evan instantly fell silent. “Grandma, I’m still recovering from a serious injury, yet you’re urging me to marry. Aren’t you being a bit too cruel?”
“Is it not cruel for you to constantly ignore me when I urge you to marry, then?”
